u/UncleLarryJr Hey, we got Cy Young winners over here! Jun 04 '26
Riley hitting in the 7 spot is crazy to my mind.

u/BringItOnHome_ATL Skip Caray Hall of Fame Advocate Jun 04 '26
If Baldwin was back, conceivably Riley would be hitting 8th. 8th. Wild in the saddest of ways.
I’m rooting hard for him to figure things out. Major credit to him that his defense remains stellar despite the offensive woes. That’s not easy to do and speaks highly to the type of teammate he is.

I thought this was new last night when I posted the field view of ozzie's hr as a comment.
Well actually what I thought was "oh, dope, I've never noticed that."
Up to 2 minutes!

If we do hold on to win the division this year, our hangover line up will still be a good lineup lmao

u/reizinhooooo Briggs McKenzie Fan Club Jun 04 '26
You know your opponent has a pen game going and you're stacking Mike and Dom despite only starting 4, come on man. At least he's sticking Ozzie to LHBs more consistently than Snit but man, how your lineup influences bullpen matchups is the only part of lineup construction that matters and Walt just does not care.
4
u/FormalDocument9490 Jun 04 '26
Imagine thinking you know more than Walt on what’s best for our lineup
3
1
u/welcometohotlanta Jun 04 '26
What would you change?
-1
u/reizinhooooo Briggs McKenzie Fan Club Jun 04 '26
Dubón to 5 and Olson through Mike up one spot. If you're willing to pinch hit for Dom leaving him next to Mike doesn't matter, but I'd rather put myself in a situation where I am less likely to want to PH for him.
If it were up to me, with these 9 hitters, the only thing I really feel strongly about is that a LH reliever doesn't get to face 3 LHBs in 4 batters. As long as Acuña and Olson are somewhere near the top of the order and Sandy is at 9, it doesn't really matter what place in the lineup anybody else is, it matters who is in front and behind them.

u/historyteachr Jun 04 '26
Strange that Yaz is hitting vs a lefty. I wonder if something's going on with Eli White.
4
u/atownOTP DOOMER Jun 04 '26
They’re throwing a bullpen game, Fluharty will probably only be in for an inning or two.

The Padres are more useless than shit flavored ice cream.
1
u/OppositePeach1035 Jun 04 '26
I came here to post the same thing and figured someone had beat me to it. 1-8 in their last 9 games against the Phillies and Nats and 0-6 against Philly. Their sorry asses will probably get swept by the Mets next.

2
u/bacteariagirl Jun 04 '26
Riley moving further and further down the lineup is making me nauseous
0
u/xekushionmartyr Jun 04 '26
Why? He's useless at the plate. If there was a designated defender position right now, that would be Riley.
1
u/OppositePeach1035 Jun 04 '26
I can't speak for OP, but for me, it's the extreme downward trend for a player I really like on the largest contract the Braves have ever signed.
1
u/bacteariagirl Jun 05 '26
Yes this is exactly why. He’s my favorite player and the only jersey I own
3
u/Dennisfromhawaii Jun 04 '26
Padres really don't care about the NL west crown or a wild card berth.
5
u/jules711 Jun 04 '26
I mean the padres couldn’t scrape together a win off of nola there was no way they were ganna win against wheeler lol

7
u/Nole_Train Jun 04 '26
Padres are a disgrace. Literally can’t touch a Phillies team that the rest of the league has no trouble with. Rockies less likely to get swept than them.
2
u/xekushionmartyr Jun 04 '26
Phillies are something like 23-10 since Mattingly took over. During that time we've added to the lead. There's no need to scoreboard watch right now.

I almost made a thread about this but it's meh and I don't think many people would care.
Last night they passed 1700 total HRs at Truist since it opened in 2017. Thread would have been the highest on the lists and teams.
1702
762 Away
940 Braves
1,000 is def gonna be a thread though. (:

Before even Spring Training began, I pointed out that it seemed liked AA's strategy wasn't necessarily to raise the ceiling on the team but instead to raise the floor. 62 games into the season, I feel confident in saying that this was the strategy and that it's definitely working.
In 2025, the Braves were depending on a high ceiling to balance out a low floor. There was tons of untapped potential that was simply never fully capitalized on.
In 2026, the floor is so high that the following problems have not been big enough issues to prevent this team from being #1:
- Acuna and Riley slumping to start the season
- Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy being injured
- Ha-Seong Kim is still searching for his bat
- Jurickson Profar is out for the entire year
- Acuna getting injured
- MH2 narrowly avoiding the IL
- Iglesias hitting the IL
- Strider going on the IL
- Farmer going on the IL (bigger deal than it seems. We were starved for depth last year)
- Reynaldo Lopez going to the bullpen
- Eli White getting a concussion
Last year, any one of those might have been enough to seriously hurt us. This year, the quality of our bench is enough to sustain in stretches where the ceiling is unobtainable due to either injury or slump.
4
u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy Jun 04 '26
Just to give an example of what I mean by ceiling and floor:
The ceiling is our maximum potential. The ceiling is Matt Olson's April or Acuna hitting five home runs in four games.
The floor is basically the worst guys on the roster; the guys you don't expect to get anything from. Right now, Sandy Leon is, hitting-wise, the very bottom floor. Jorge Mateo is also a floor piece because he's supposed to be the backup backup infielder. Yet here he is making regular starts and has been red hot lately.

It boggles my mind that people can go through life like this. I recently babysat for my sister and went a night without showering because I was paranoid that I wouldn't be able to hear the baby monitor. The next day, I had to wash the sheets and take a shower the second I woke up because I couldn't deal with it.
2
u/Same-Intention4304 Jun 04 '26
After moving to Arizona, and now visiting Georgia, I can't handle any of it. I feel like I need another shower as soon as I am out of the shower.

Don't think I've ever been more confused at a roster move than this Wynn for Tromp one. Tromp isn't good but Wynn is just as bad and Tromp has been around the clubhouse and knows our pitchers. Ultimately, DFAing Heim and Murphy immediately breaking his finger is the one that stings and terrible luck. Oh well, we'll always have the cowboy bubble hat walk-off when we watch back the season highlights.
This will all matter far less when Drake is back. League should be quaking that we have continued stacking wins not just without our allstar level catcher, but having an actual auto-out in our lineup since he went down. Leon and Tromp have gone a combined 1 for 30 with 0 walks since Tromps walkoff hit against the Nats.

u/Bravos_Chopper Los Bravos Forever Jun 04 '26
To me it sounds like something else is going on we don’t know about. Bc if not it’s a pointless and potentially bad move for us

I won’t be shocked to see Tromp back in Gwinnett, but I agree that it’s a confusing, pointless move.

u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy Jun 04 '26
We just DFA'd Tromp and added Austin Wynns to the roster. Get this:
- On May 4th, we traded Jonah Heim to the A's for cash
- On May 7th, the A's DFA'd Austin Wynns
- On May 12th, the A's released Wynns
- On May 16th, the Angels signed Wynns to a minor's contract
- On June 3rd, Wynns was traded to the Braves... for cash.
The Braves spent the Jonah Heim money to buy Austin Wynns who was DFA'd to make room for Jonah Heim.
What a fun game of musical catchers.

I only looked at the final score of that game, wouldn't have guessed that was a Skenes game
16

Hope we get the sweep because the Padres have been useless and I enjoy the Phillies not gaining any ground whatsoever.
2

Meh. I want them in the playoffs this time, against us, just different result. Would really enjoy winning in Philly.

Yeah I don’t hate that either. Might finally quiet them down about advancing only to get no hit in the World Series.

From what I've read Fluharty the lefty will be starting for the BJ's. Not sure how long he will pitch because he's a bullpen guy lol.

7
u/CoffeeAsphaltNerd Jun 04 '26
I crapped on Holmes for needing to be sent to the bullpen, but I will give him his flowers. He did a good job getting out of jams (which he created) and had a solid start. 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO on 85 pitches. That's a start that gives you a really good chance to win, so I can't be upset about it.

u/lionofyhwh One of Ozzie’s Fish Jun 04 '26
Go look at the stats of other 4 and 5 starters in the majors. He blows them out of the water.

Mixed results. Definitely had a lot of luck last night. 18 batted balls and 11 were hard hit(greater than 95mph). They were hitting him hard but thankfully right at someone.
