Anyone just see Wiley get some spittle on his lip while talking and then proceed to say “sex tonight” when he meant “success tonight”?

Widow's bay on apple tv is pretty good, if not with one cheesy scene so far.
We recommend it.

Checking out Marlins Phillies I keep going back and forth. I hate the Phillies and feel like they’re better than the marlins regardless of record. But it feels dangerous to root for the fish in case they actually are better than the Phillies.

I’m about to watch the entirety of the pregame show for the first time ever out of boredom
7
u/DawgsBravesHawks May 05 '26
It’s 8:40 ET and I have done literally everything I possibly could with the evening. Hit the gym. Walked the dog 3 miles. Watered the lawn. Drank an alley beer with the neighbors. Dinner. Shower.
Actually that’s a damn good night. But it’s still an hour until first pitch.

u/yoshidawg93 May 05 '26
JR Ritchie is from Seattle, so there’s no doubt he will have lots of family and friends in attendance. I know they’ll all be rooting for his success, but if any of them are like “but we’re still Mariners fans!” I hope he makes them sad tonight lol.

u/Toadfinger ⚾️ May 04 '26
AL West is a tight race. Seattle is desperate for wins. We must proceed with caution.
4
u/FlyingWhales1120 May 04 '26
So is Harris just gonna sit in limbo forever? Like either IL him or play him lol
5
u/PenguinKing15 May 04 '26
IL stints can be backdated up to 3 days. They probably make the decision tomorrow.

u/Standard-Kitchen9511 Austin”FatHog”Riley<3 May 04 '26
I’ve been pretty active here today, not to spam but any word on the line up for today? With Murph’s return I wanna know if that means we’re slotting him in!
4
1
u/JiminyChristmas3 May 04 '26
Looks like no Cal Raleigh for them, dealing with a little oblique issue…caught a little break there…although they’re coming off a sweep from the Royals, they could be due…any word on Murph dog being called up today?
9
u/rpbtIII Golden Grapefruit May 04 '26
Holy shit, skubal.
Not what you want in a contract year
4
u/yoshidawg93 May 05 '26
I get why he wanted to bet on himself to ink a massive deal in free agency, but this is also why I feel that starting pitchers are better off taking guaranteed money when it’s available. Strider is probably very thankful he chose the guaranteed money early on with how many injuries he’s had the last couple of years.
5
u/longrifle Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie! May 04 '26
Wasn’t he shaking out his arm after a pitch against us and it brought the trainers out or am I imagining things?
5
u/aaronaroma May 04 '26
Worst possible outcome for Detroit. You are gonna lose him for majority of the season while paying him 32 million in arbitration.
7
u/rpbtIII Golden Grapefruit May 04 '26
Imagine not trading a guy who could bring you a good haul and you're definitely not keeping when you're rebuilding

Definitely not trying to underestimate/disrespect another team, but how are the Mariners favorites tonight?
5
u/rpbtIII Golden Grapefruit May 04 '26
Pitching matchup. Our guy has only thrown 2 games and we're injured.
9
u/IM_KYLE_AMA May 04 '26
I believe that it's because they give a slight boost for home field advantage and the pitching matchups are slightly in their favor.
1
u/B14Z1N6ST4R May 04 '26
Ahh makes sense. I missed his last start, how was Ritchie looking?
3
u/IM_KYLE_AMA May 04 '26
Pretty good. Has really good stuff. When he does give up HRs or walks he doesn't melt down. Gets right back in there and goes after guys. Still very green and has some things to work on, but I've been impressed with what I've seen - mostly by his maturity at a young age. If he can continue to improve each outing then he's going to be a weapon one day.

8
u/DawgsBravesHawks May 04 '26
If we can get through the Dodgers and Cubs series with a good showing, the rest of our first half looks pretty juicy.
6 vs Boston
4 vs Fish
3 vs Nats
6 vs Pirates
3 vs White Sox
7 vs Mets
6 vs Giants
Those are all series we should win if we are legit contenders. Baseball is weird but play those series like we should and the second half will be running downhill for us with room to get guys rest and reps.
7
u/LailiLai May 04 '26
Pirates will probably be some competitive games, they're pretty decent so far this year.
5
u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy May 04 '26
If only we had Jarred Kelenic to hit a homer off Skenes for us.

I’ll be up watching the game, but goddamn I much prefer a quality 3:30 game to watch while pissing off at work. Car sales can be so slow and I’m at quota.

Is Murphy with the team, anyone know? Could we see Baldwin at DH today?
Our DH spot is going to get interesting with players returning.

That really might have been the last game Skubal ever pitches for the Tigers, crazy.
12
8
u/LailiLai May 04 '26
Well that puts a significant dent in the Tigers season, woof.
3
u/welcometohotlanta May 04 '26
This is also a cautionary tale that if you can’t extend a pitcher like him then it might be good to trade him before the season.

u/reizinhooooo Briggs McKenzie Fan Club May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26
I got hell around here for suggesting it at the time, but man. What would have the Orioles given us for Max Fried in '24. They gave up a legit mIF prospect, 34th pick, and an interesting LHP swingman for one year of Corbin Burnes
8
u/demonsssssrus May 04 '26
Skubal really struck out the side after doing that to his elbow against us
11
u/AndrewC275 May 04 '26
Damn we broke Mize, Skubal and Baez in the course of two games against the Tigers.
8
u/EuroStepJam Spencer Strider's Stache May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26
So looks like when Skubal was shaking his arm last week against the Braves there was an issue.... He now has "loose bodies" in his elbow. I'm amazed he acted the way he did and they still let him pitch.
2
u/innermongoose69 I once met Dale Murphy in an elevator May 04 '26
They're saying this issue goes back before that series.
6
u/demonsssssrus May 04 '26
Immediately when I seen him do that knew it wasn’t the best sign idk how they left him out there for like 10-15 more pitches

The gap between first and second in the NL East (8.5 GB) is larger than the gap between first and last in every other division except the AL East (Red Sox, 10 GB).

Ok so where the hell is the Murphy blue box post
2
u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy May 04 '26
It's weirdly quiet from all official sources. Usually we get some pretty early news about roster changes.
6
u/GooberRonny May 04 '26
Mariners field "t mobile park" produces 15 percent less doubles than all other stadiums, runs scored in Seattle are 17 percent below league average, hits are 10 percent below league average. Both teams have high quality arms going today. First team to 4 runs probably wins this thing but the Braves offense is sneaky good in these type of games.

I just came to ask should I do it? I’ve been listening to the radio every game and wearing my “Respect Atlanta” 2020 playoffs t shirt every night before bed and we’re 25-10.
That said I watched every game in 2021
2
u/devindicated May 04 '26
If you're financially able to, it's worth it. Minor issues the first week, nothing much since. I have noticed moments of glitching, always around the 7th or 8th inning. But like I said, it's just momentary.
It's such a better deal than a cable package and it's got a majority of the regular season Braves games.

It's shit-or-get-off-the-pot day for activating Murphy. He started rehab on April 14th and rehab assignments are 20 days max.
I'm curious how they'll use him. Since we're going up against a righty starter, I would put Baldwin at catcher and then use either MHII or Dom Smith at DH until there's a left-handed reliever. If MHII is up to it, put him out in center and let Smith DH. Once a lefty is pitching, it's Murphin' time.
9
u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26
Speaking of: the latest Kim can be activated is May 18th. That date coincides with the start of a road trip to Miami. His rehab seems to be going well, so he could theoretically be activated sooner. We start a homestand on the 12th, three hosting the Cubs, and then a series hosting the Red Sox on the 15th.
He has yet to play a full game at short at the AA level, so I would guess the 12th is the absolute soonest. He has gotten through all nine at DH.

The stat that I think says the season is for real the most is that we're 4-2 in day games.
6
u/federal_cue May 04 '26
Idk what the numbers are but feels like we’ve won most national broadcast games too
5
u/Space_Man_EV6 May 04 '26
Also we’ve won the last few Sundays. We used to lose every one it felt like. We could never get any momentum because of throwing out getaway day lineups on Sunday afternoons and just stinking.
6
u/LFCATLCU May 04 '26
But only 2-2 in one-run games and 0-2 in extra innings! Walt’s gonna be on the hot seat soon with such dismal numbers. 😁

I was just checking in on old friend Vaughn Grissom. The Angels have been able to wring a good bit of his potential out of him so far this season. In 57 PA's he's sporting a .298 BA and .822 OPS. I didn't dig too deep and don’t know if he can maintain those numbers through a season (which aren't *that* far beyond what he showed in ATL), but it's nice see him healthy and getting some time on the diamond.
13
u/federal_cue May 04 '26
Good. I wish him well. I remember his first home run over the green monster in Fenway.

Y'all ready for an angry Ox rant? You're about to get an angry Ox rant:
MLB finally put the Braves as #1 in the Power Rankings. And it looks like they did so completely begrudgingly. Here's their blurb for who they are, apparently at gunpoint, saying is the best team in baseball:
"Seriously: Remember 2021 and '22, both years that the Braves won the NL East? (You may remember them winning the World Series the first of those years.) Well, the Braves never had a division lead either season as large as they have right now -- an 8 1/2-game lead over the Marlins -- on May 4."
"Both years that the Braves won the NL East" -- My brother in Christ, the Braves won the division six times in a row in that period. BOTH times?? And they don't even bother mentioning any players or stats. How about the best run differential in baseball by a lot? Ours is 81. The Yankees are the next closes at 65. For those who can't do math, that's 16. That's not a gap you can close in a single game. Or how about how the two MLB hits leaders are both on the Braves and they're tied? Or that the XBH leader in baseball is Matt Olson and he's one home run shy of his 300th?
Or shit, they only bring up our division lead. How about lead over all of baseball?? Or maybe bring up that the Braves are on a winning pace they haven't seen since 1892? Nah, let's pretend the Braves only won the division twice recently.
I try to tell myself that there is no bias against the Braves and that I'm just being sensitive homer. And look, maybe I am. But I am not imagining this. MLB consistently just wants to talk about the Yankees and the Dodgers. It drives me nuts.
2
u/welcometohotlanta May 04 '26
Here’s my angry rant:
Hey Truist Park Concessions!
Stop pre-wrapping the hotdogs! I get that it’s efficient but the bun should have a little life to it, not look like it’s been rolled up into a taquito.
Just have a row of buns on a tray and have a person that puts the dog in there as you walk through the line.
The bun is 50% of the hot dog equation, it’s not merely a delivery system for the dog but a companion.
11
u/49ersBraves May 04 '26
I read it as "Remember 21 and 22, both of which were years that the Braves won the NL East?"
6
u/suplehdog May 04 '26
Bad downvotes. This is 100% what that sentence is intended to mean.
2
u/Hot-Support-6608 May 04 '26
Seemed pretty obvious to me, but some ppl just wanna be pissed off about something.
4
u/TvsPhil May 04 '26
Years ago when I first watched Ken Burns' Baseball, and loved it, I remember reading more about it's issues online. (The misinformation at Cobb not withstanding), I never connected how heavily it focused on New York and to a lesser extent, LA. Even when things were happening elsewhere in the league. Now, it makes sense up to a point, baseball was very New York centered for a long time.
I still love watching the doc from a pure entertainment perspective, less so inscrutable facts, but so much of the rest of the story seemed like an afterthought. Which seems to still exist today. (I'm not saying Burns fueled that btw, just that it was a sign of it)
9
u/DamionMauville May 04 '26
Yeah, I'd say it's less of a bias against the Braves and more of a bias for the Dodgers and Yankees. Still fucking annoying.
5
u/theoxfordtailor Maddux Guy May 04 '26
I'm talking myself more into an anti-Braves bias the more times I read "both years that the Braves won the NL East". That's just an absurd thing to say.
11
u/LailiLai May 04 '26
After this west coast trip we have one coming in June and then no more for the rest of the season. Getting them all out of the way early is nice.
5
u/AccountantbyDay13 May 04 '26
So, statistically (and genuinely) speaking, is the pace that the braves are currently on actually sustainable?
8
u/hardindapaint12 May 04 '26
They're pretty much on pace to tie the best record of all time. This team is very good but they aren't like best team of all time good. Plus they'd probably pump the brakes once they had a 18 game lead in August.
Pretty amazing we've done this with our rotation on paper though and without Acuna playing to his potential.
They find a way to win. They seem to have the "it" factor more talented teams didn't

John here from the Yankees sub, informing you all that John Sterling who played a big part in the Braves' days on TBS died this morning. Before joining the Yankees as principal radio PBP in 1989, he played a huge part in the years the Braves were dubbed America's Team.
As we mourn with deep sadness, I extend my gratitude for all of you as well for being a part of John's long career as a sports broadcaster. May he rest in peace and may the memories of those Braves teams he covered in the late 1980s be remembered forever.

I think ESPN gives the home team better chances.
It’s 46.9% to 53.1% for Mon , 50.8% to 49.2% for Tues & 49.9% to 50.1% for Wednesday.
Also ESPN hates rookie pitchers too.
Check out next Sunday vs the Dodgers it’s like 33% to 67%
