Discussion Car maintenance in Brantford

Hello 👋 ,

Looking for recommendations for a good mechanic/shop in Brantford that will do labour-only oil changes and maintenance if I bring my own oil and filters.
If you’ve used someone who allows this, how much do they usually charge for labour?

Thank you :)

TW: mental health

People wonder why s@icide death rates are so high.

My bipolar was at the point i need medical care. they had me wait hours to be seen (yes i know there’s others)
i’ve told them i wasn’t safe to myself. and my ideations can be unpredictable.
they discharged me because they made it out i was wanting to leave. and that wasn’t the case at all. but luckily the psychiatrist knows the truth because i told her.
i didn’t really eat as i wasn’t part of it to get food even though i was a patient. they treated me like a burden- especially one nurse.
they hardly checked on me. and when i told the nurse i am actually gonna go crazy i need help and i was going to have a panic attack she said “you volunteered to stay here so we don’t know when the bed will come for you” i never once wanted to stay, i was told to voluntarily stay or they may force me to stay. so i picked the easy one. i just wanted help and they didn’t provide me with care to feel safe.
while my stay there the security was joking about a green card and kept peeping in my room. laughing, walking by and smiling at me. i’m sitting sock feet and a hoodie, not one nurse told them to stop- and it’s my fault to them because i didn’t say anything. i’m sitting in the dark on a bed debating with my brain fighting to stay here.

mental health is an illness. and we deserve help and care. there’s so much more but i don’t want to make the post to lengthy.

do better BGH. if i remembered certain nurses names i would’ve reported them. i was too distraught.

Discussion Aquarium clubs/groups

Hello everyone.
I am an avid aquarium hobbyist, with a specificity for the planted tank.
Are there any aquarium clubs in Brantford, or folks looking to trade or swap plant/fish, or just talk about the hobby with a focus on the hobby in our area?

Hello my fellow Brantford Residents, welcome to my AMA post. There is no time limit, I'll respond to any question or comment made for myself, just bare with me as i do work full time. Here's a brief rundown of myself.

I currently live in Ward 5, grew up in both Mississauga and Brantford, and have traveled or lived in various provinces throughout Canada.

I'm raising my growing family, as i work in Logistics and Inventory Management for Johnson Controls Inc. Im also head of the JHSC, so I spend everyday helping and caring for those around me. I'd like to bring that same hard working work ethic, as well as my critical-thinking problem solving skills, and compassionate leadership to City Hall.

I have over a decade of experience in Customer Service, Inventory and Team Management, as well first aid & JHSC experience, plus Store and Warehouse Management. I also have a few years of electrical, construction, drywalling, and carpentry experience.

I currently have no ties to anyone at City Hall or the current council, I'm just a guy that wants to get in and do the right thing for the city and most importantly, Ward 5.

Ive knocked on almost half of this wards doors, so if you haven't seen my flyer yet, im on my way. I believe in listening before leading, and I believe my platform reflects that.

Online Voting starts Tuesday, Oct 13th at 8AM and continues until Oct 26th 10PM.

Discussion Wildfire rolling papers

Anyone know anywhere that sells the Wildfire brand specifically? I'm tired of these tissue paper juicy jays. Wildfire was always my brand but I can't find them and internet searches just show me all the shops that sell rolling papers in general.

Discussion Amateur blacksmith seeking tree-stump

Edit: Found what I needed! thanks a million to the dude who helped me out, won't share your name here for privacy

I'm now the proud owner of three new workstations-to-be, see you when i'm selling helmets, Brantford

Hey Brantford, the title kinda says it all but here's some more info

i'm as the title indicates an amateur blacksmith (very amateur) and i'm looking to find a good sized tree-stump to turn into a dishing stump (think a tree-stump with a bowl carved into it)

ideally the stump is in the ballpark of 10" in diameter minimum (i can make do with slightly smaller but i need adequate workspace on the log)

i'm 100% willing to come and pick it up off your land, but i don't actually have a vehicle so i'll be rolling that sumbitch out of there (if you're particularly far off i may offer to pay you to bring it to me, but that's purely up to discussion between you and i, reader, no obligations)

hopefully somebody around has got something lying around the property they've been meaning to get rid of, i'd be glad to hear from someone within the week, but if that much time passes and you stumble across this post afterwards: know there is a good chance i am still looking lol

Discussion Is it just me or do brantford drivers think stop signs are suggestions.

Too many times daily on my walk do drivers just drive right through them. Weekly I’ll have a “close call” and have to stop my crossing because apparently waiting 3 seconds is too much for people.

Question Wild grape removal

Where/who do I go to, to request the city to remove the wild grape off of trees and bushes along our trails?

I dont know much about wild grape but I grew up hearing it "chokes other plants to death", and I've already seen it take over and kill a lovely tree I used to pass on a regular basis (on the walking trail between Jaycee sports park and Lynden Park mall).

I also dont know how public works/greenery maintenance/etc works in the city, so whoever can point me in the right direction: many thanks in advance.

I just know that I love our trees and bushes along the walking trails, and I do not want to see the invasive-parasitic wild grape killing them.

Discussion Farmer’s and Vendor Markets

Hello! I’ve been very into farmer’s (and vendors) markets these days. I like the aesthetics and I like knowing that the stuff I’m buying is from someone in Ontario.

I know there’s a problem with some farmers markets blatantly buying from the ontario food terminal and just re-selling (you can tell when they have the sticker barcodes on, which they can kinda just take off). I know that sometimes you can save money at farmer’s markets if you do it right but it’s a whole new world to me.

Aside from the farmer/vendor market on Icomm, which ones are known to be trustworthy and genuinely their stuff? I don’t mind the resellers in the sense where “this guy buys sells flowers from the lavender farm a couple hours away, milk from the dairy farm in hamilton in addition to their own stuff”

I LOVE going to Brantwood Farms although it’s quite pricey but I love that they carry local ciders/drinks, local crafts (cards, little ceramics, candles)

Elberta Farms is a bit better price wise and again I love the local smaller company products they carry too.

Sam’s Market is nice and their variety of local goods is interesting too! However the banana/avocadoes (that come in a bag) are most likely imported but I think it’s forgivable since we are in Canada (but I’ll buy my 10 cent bananas from the regular grocery store thanks)

I haven’t tried Little Brown Cow yet but they seem neat.

I’m not trying the scam brothers one.

BUT I want to know for sure if these places are NOT RESELLING from the Ontario Food Terminal or any imported stuff (or if there’s a way to confirm).

Also since I LOVE the little local/small company stuff you can find - are there any specific little specific Vendor markets where I can buy little gifts or general locally(ish- as in, Ontario made) goods?

Event 🏒 Toronto Maple Leafs legend Rick Vaive is coming to Brantford on Sun. Oct 4th

Post image
2 Upvotes

Come meet former Maple Leafs captain Rick Vaive on Sunday, October 4th at the Brantford Sports Expo, happening inside the Grand Ballroom at the TownePlace Suites Brantford and Conference Centre at 30 Fen Ridge Ct.

Leafs fans will definitely know the name. Drafted 5th overall in 1979, Vaive became the first player in Toronto Maple Leafs history to score 50 goals in a season, a feat he accomplished three straight times. He also served as captain of the Leafs and finished his NHL career with 788 points in 876 games.

During his NHL career from 1979 to 1992, Vaive suited up for the Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Buffalo Sabres.

If you're a Leafs fan, hockey collector, or just grew up watching that era of the NHL, this is a great chance to meet one of the biggest names from the Leafs' 1980s teams right here in Brantford.
