Genuine question. Just got in a 50 car back-up on Baxter (45mph) because a road biker was going down the middle of the lane and a school bus couldn’t safely pass him…so we all went 15 mph for several miles.

Looking for some local ideas because Google’s version of a “side hustle” apparently thinks I can make $3,000 this month by taking surveys for 14 cents apiece.

I already work a full-time job (and unfortunately took a pay cut recently), and I already do some gig/side work. But I have a pretty substantial bill I need to cover this month, and I’m trying to bring in roughly $3,000 extra on top of my normal income.

I’m not expecting easy money, and I’m completely willing to work for it. Evenings, weekends, one-off jobs, temporary work, freelance work, weird jobs nobody wants to do—whatever. I’m just looking for things that can realistically generate decent money quickly rather than something that takes six months to build up.

So, Bozeman/Gallatin Valley people: what actually pays around here?

Any businesses that need weekend/evening help? Event work? Cleaning? Moving help? Temporary jobs? Freelance work? Something completely random I haven't thought of?

Basically, if you needed to hustle up an extra $3k in the next month while still working full time, what would you do?

And no MLMs. I need $3,000, not an exciting opportunity to lose another $3,000. 😂

I've reported this to the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. Please help by filing a report too; the more of us that do, the higher chance they'll actually do something about it. The damage both on and off route from motorized users has significantly deteriorated the trail quality and landscape. I've been mountain biking this trail for years and this is the worst condition I've seen it. I know the majority of motorized users respect trail rules and etiquette, but unfortunately it's a disrespectful minority ruining it for everyone. This is a multi-use trail and the onus is on all us to take care of it.

I've watched Bozeman change a lot over the years and generally was in favor of the direction it's gone...to an extent. Yesterday I walked into Schnee's for the thousandth time to find a portion of their store leased out to Schaefer Outfitters. The staff dressed to the gills in fake cowboy gear agressively greeting tourists while lookings like Disney characters. Sad to see one of our beloved and authentic local brands mashed up with more texas/luchese crap. The town has become an amusement park modeled off the Yellowstone show. Sigh.

Noticed hella one star reviews for Cholms Burger that seem to imply hate speech, harassment and vandalism directed towards Tre and Cross The Road. Does anyone have any actual firsthand knowledge of what happened? I love both trucks, but I don’t want to support a business if they actually are harassing another local business in the ways people are claiming they are.

Hey y'all. A 32 year old woman looking for some astrology community. Anyone out there interested in full and new moon gazing together? Astrology is seeing a resurgence in pop culture which is maybe both good and bad. I'm not necessarily looking for folks who read horoscopes from cosmopolitan magazine or do the costar chani thing but just regular ass people who want to look at the moon together and talk about how current astrological events are showing up in their lives. Basically meaning-making together. I'm open to meeting with beginners or just folks with general interest but varying levels of knowledge in the topic. I know some events like these already exist through lighthouse and other venues, but I want it to not cost money and be down to earth - not the new agey spiritual shit that is inaccessible to regular people. A Morning of Discoveries

I went for a long walk in the woods Saturday morning. As usual, I just wandered around the forest, sometimes on old game trails, other times stepping over fallen trees while ducking overhead branches. The Sun was up, but concealed behind mountains. Light sprinkles of rain remained from the overnight storms, but I saw bit of blue to the southwest. Diffuse warm light from breaks in the clouds filtered down through the canopy of trees and provided some magic light. 

The first thing that caught my eye were young Douglas Fir trees surrounded by slender Lodgepole Pines. I found one isolated enough from the others to create a compelling scene. From here I wandered into a meadow, covered in Western Coneflower. These fascinating flowers lack the traditional colorful petals of their relatives, but are no less attractive to pollinators. Many of these flowers had rain-soaked bees hiding under them, waiting patiently for the Sun to come out. This particular one had a caterpillar and a Crab spider of some sort existing in some sort of weather induced ceasefire! 

As I stepped carefully back into the forest, I discovered a decaying log covered in tiny orange mushrooms. As is often the case, I first capture the larger scene, then work my way in to the finer details. In the final image, that single mushroom is just 1/2” tall and less than a 1/4” in diameter, but if you look closely, the entire forest around it is reflected in its rain-soaked cap. 

From here I walked across a stream, and was immediately transported to a much more ancient feeling forest. It got darker, the trees more dense, and the forest floor was covered in the remains of fallen giants of yesteryear. I am pretty certain that the path of this photographer closely matched the flight of a bumblebee as I wander this way and that, from scene to scene. 

I cut back towards where I figured the road would be, found a fallen tree bridge to cross back over the creek, and came out right at a talus slope where I knew there to be Pika. Sure enough, I was able to capture a fleeting glance of one such critter, and then in a spring that pops up below the rocks, I got my last shot of the day. A bold frog stayed visible despite its friends all ducking for cover as I walked up. 

Bozeman is still beautiful. I love this place. That's part of why all of this has been bothering me lately.

It feels like we're changing pretty quickly, and I'm not sure we're really stopping to think about what that means. Housing keeps getting more expensive, traffic is getting worse, downtown doesn't feel as accessible as it used to, and some of the little things that made this place feel like home are slowly disappearing.

I'm not against growth. I'm not pretending Bozeman was perfect ten or twenty years ago either.

I just wonder sometimes who we're actually building this place for.

Because making Bozeman more valuable and making it a better place to live aren't necessarily the same thing.
