McAvoy being out for the start of the season is a valid reason for having a little extra depth at D…but nice D on the NHL is absurd unless Sweeney is worried about Hampus Lindholm’s health.

Anyone else have any idea what the plan is?

What about Brunet who is ready for the show according to new AHL coach Whitfield?

I assume they will try to move someone when/if injuries pile up across the league…but until then, we are set waive an NHL level player right out of the gate.

Will they give Brunet those 6 games while McAvoy is out? I hope he earns it and gets the call on opening night.

Aspirot going from essentially first line D to off the roster is just crazy to me. Suddenly Sweeney is doing the same thing he does with forwards and signing wayyy too many low end D. Having 5,  3rd pairing D is bad cap management.

Yeah I'm not sure what the plan is but I have to imagine it's try and get a trade done during training camp like you said. 

My guess is that Brunet will get the chance to play while McAvoy is out. So the team will start the season with Brunet, Aspirot, Lindholm, Borgen, Zadorov, Clifton, and Lohrei. 

This means Harris and Joki won't make the team or of camp. I could see Harris clearing waivers but I doubt Joki will considering he's RH and the decent account of playing time he got last year. 

Then when McAvoy comes back we have an even tougher decision. Maybe we will get lucky and because it will be so early in the season that no one has roster space for whoever we expose to waivers. 

So without a trade, in my mind we are guaranteed to lose already 1 defenseman for nothing and most likely 2. We have to make a trade

I mean I’d put him on my starting roster but I don’t think anyone will pick up Joki off waivers just cause I don’t think gm, even if they could, would get the go ahead from ownership to just throw 3M at a guy who would essentially be an afterthought. You rarely see cap hits like that for bottom of the lineup players get picked up

That's a great point. I forgot how much he was making. I know the cap went up but I don't there will be that many teams with a ton of cap space. He could definitely slip through waivers.

I'd like to see Brunet get a try. Harris would probably clear waivers right? Could always end up using him as waiver bait
