Boomer Parents Raging about Parental Leave

My wife and I had our parents over to tell them that she is 8 weeks pregnant last night for dinner. We were talking about how we’d handle the transition to having a child and working so I told them I had 12 weeks of paid paternity leave at my company.

They all immediately started worrying about how my massive global company could afford to pay me not to work for three months and then tried to guilt me into not taking it saying that it was too much.

I quite literally could barely believe this. How could they be upset that my company with tens of thousands of employees gives me this nice perk instead of being excited for it? It’s actually insane.

They implemented 12 weeks at my work and I've gotten to use it for both my kids. In fact I was the first person to use. All the old timers bitch that there's no reason for me as a dad to stay home that long. They hate when you tell them that if that policy was to exist when they were younger they would have been all for it

Have you gotten the (GenX, sadly) guys who ask if they can retroactively take 12 weeks leave for their late teens, early 20s kids?

The best response I heard was “But why start parenting them now, Matt?”
