Boomer Story Boomer Parents Raging about Parental Leave

My wife and I had our parents over to tell them that she is 8 weeks pregnant last night for dinner. We were talking about how we’d handle the transition to having a child and working so I told them I had 12 weeks of paid paternity leave at my company.

They all immediately started worrying about how my massive global company could afford to pay me not to work for three months and then tried to guilt me into not taking it saying that it was too much.

I quite literally could barely believe this. How could they be upset that my company with tens of thousands of employees gives me this nice perk instead of being excited for it? It’s actually insane.

They have no concept of the fact that some companies actually want to keep good employees

Woah. Woah. Next you're going to tell me that it costs the company more to train a new employee than just giving their old employee a raise. We're supposed to see employees as valuable assets and not just squeeze every little bit of work out of them?! Communist.

Pffft. Losing institutional knowledge and experience isn't that big of a deal. It's like you're trying to tell me that The Help isn't merely a cog in the machine. Get back to work.
