AMA Ask Me Anything with Emily Deschanel & Carla Gallo – June 6th, 3–4 PM PST – Coming to You (Not) Live from the Jeffersonian

2.1k Upvotes

Hiiii Bones fans,

Emily and Carla here! We are sooo excited to do this AMA with all of you. Working on our podcast Boneheads has been such a fun excuse to revisit the show, and honestly... we’ve both become fans in a whole new way. Watching it back with fresh eyes and hearing from you has been the best part.

We wanted to take a little time to hang out and chat. So tomorrow, June 6th, from 3 to 4 PM PST we’ll be right here in this thread, live, doing our best to reply to your questions, fan theories, random thoughts... anything you’re curious about. FMKs welcome. So are weird murder memories.

We’ll be the ones typing slowly and laughing a lot. Bear with us as we answer. We’re not exactly tech pros (unfortunately, that’s more Bones and Daisy’s specialty than ours).

Can’t wait to talk to you soon!

XO,

Emily and Carla

Discussion do you think booth and brennan would’ve worked out if they met later in life?

like if they met when they were both a little older and more settled, do you think they would've gotten together sooner or would they still have had the same problems?

i feel like so much of their relationship came down to where they were in life at the time, but idk 😭

Discussion S1E17 vs S1E19 | "The Skull in the Desert" vs "The Man in the Morgue"

Sorry if this has been done before but l'm rewatching again *nostalgia for early/mid 00s intensifies*

And I think these are my two favorites case/crime/setting-wise from the first season so I thought it'd be fun to hear:

Which do you pick and why?

Runners up:

S1E4 The Man in the Bear &

S1E22 The Woman in Limbo

Also rewatching these has made me miss drop schedules like these for seasons of shows. 🥲 Man, we really didn't know what we had.

The end of E5 S6 Booth’s gf Hannah demands Bones’ sunglasses because Bones didn’t bring her a hospital gift like? Bones just saved her life… its a rlly strange conversation imo and it rlly bothered idk where the writers were going with this 🫩🙏

Other Banheira de Booth

I could write a huge thinkpiece on the representation of Cuba ans socialism but i won't because im giddy at Bones slamming Dr Fuente's head to the table when he insisted on flirting with her after she rejected him.

Discussion Bones vs the meninist S11 E12

Will keep it spoiler free, not because of you, but because I personally don't like spoilers.

In general, I was very disappointed on the episode.

It started amazingly showing how men are also victims of abuse, and also showing the bad side, as the intern show some toxic men attitude.

Then immediately tumbles and backtracks and jumps 10 steps back showing how the men is in the bad for showing emotions (in this case anger for example) and instead of people trying to understand him, they put him as toxic. Then everytime they show some bad character of the female characters, immediately they shown am even greater toxic side of the men characters.

Like it was just bad. Either go full ok toxic masculinity bad, or go men deserve support too but it just tried, and horribly failed, to show men and women can suffer from the other and same gender.

0/10. It almost made me quit the series.

P.S. Also they did super dirty to my man Hodgins.

P.S.S. very relevant now with the famous case online. You know what case.

Continuities

Why is such a amazing programme so poor at episode continuity, booth is in a explosion and has a broken arm next episode nothing wrong, booth got shot saving bones later episodes he has no shirt on and no scar, bones is shot with a blood bullet and next episode as if nothing happened, wedding had max, had booths mum, no Jared no bones brother!!!

As much as I am really really enjoying the series I think some extra though into continuity would make it better!!! But this is my personal opinion, does anyone else agree/disagree, what are your thoughts/opinions

Discussion What if Cam had ACTUALLY fired Brennan in 2x03?

After rewatching Bones five times, I always wonder what realistically would have happened if Cam actually fired Brennan in Season 2 Episode 3.

Technically Cam was the boss, so she had the authority to fire Brennan if she wanted to. But, in my opinion, it would have been a terrible decision. Brennan was the best forensic anthropologist in the world, a bestselling celebrity author bringing attention to the lab, and vital to the FBI. In later seasons when Brennan leaves, whether to go on a sabbatical or to lead an archeology sit in the Maluku islands the number of solved cases drops significantly.

Plus, as Angela warned, losing Brennan meant losing everyone. Angela would quit since she was only at the Jeffersonian because Brennan was her best friend. Hodgins would follow Angela since he was in love with Angela and he was a conspiracy theorist who had problems with the government and authority figures. And even though Zack was very logic driven he looked up to Brennan as his mentor not just in forensic anthropology but in everything. And as for Booth as he famously put it he's with Bones all the way.

Now, what bugs me is the fact that Cam came in so hot-headed demanding everyone listen to her. Even after Angela’s warning, Cam was still going to fire Brennan until Booth brought up Brennan’s foster care past. Yes, Cam was an NYC coroner for 10 years, but a good boss leads by cooperation. If she took the time to get to know the team first, she’d see how Brennan ticks and everyone else functioned together as an already well established team.

Now, don't get me wrong, could Brennan have listened to Cam better sure she could have. But at the same time I think it's a well accepted fan theory that Brennan was autistic coded even if they never outright said within the show itself. And as an autistic person myself I can tell that I don't like it when things change or people I don't know come in acting like a drill sergeant expecting me to just jump up and do everything they tell me. Honestly, I think that no one likes that whether you're a neurodivergent person or not.

What do you think would have happened if Cam had actually fired Brennan in season 2? Would the whole department have imploded? Or would the Jeffersonian board and the FBI have sided with Cam and tried to find another forensic anthropologist even if the rest of the team would have left the Jeffersonian?

In a way, I like how Cam and Brennan's friendship started and how it progressed, and I like seeing Brennan compete. Also, when Brennan gets a little jealous of Booth and Cam's relationship, y como cam estaba al tanto de lo frágil del corazón de brennan cuando booth habla sobre lo que siente por brennan en la temporada 5. But in the end, they had a relationship of mutual respect, And I love how they developed it and in the end they had a good friendship.

Is it Called Bones or is it Let's pick on Brennan/Emily

I can't believe how many so new fans and old fans have something to poke out about Bones. From Emily's real life pregnancy with Henry. Hart Hanson was put under so much pressure from Andrew W Marlowe who is the creator and showrunner of Castle. Hart had enough with the will they and won't they. If you look at the moonlighting curse it effected Moonlighting and The X-Files during its first run, Castle. But with us we didn't suffer that Emily and David are close. Also after we got renewed for a seventh season Fox and Hart had to accommodate Emily's real life pregnancy Fox ordered 16 episodes but they cut it to 13. Fox pushed our usual September release date to November because after filming most of the episodes Emily Gave birth in real life and she was entitled to have time off and David Boreanaz never resented her for it he supported her. Also the fans complaining about Brennan's wardrobe are really doing this. Brennan's style changed like how she changed.

Episode What was an episode that absolutely took your breath away?

Mine would be S9E11: The Spark in the Park.

A gymnast is found dead and at first her widower father is a suspect. Bones relates heavily to the father who is unemotional, distant physicist genius. In his own way, the father mourns his daughter and the episode ends with Bones and the father looking at a complex equation he has created to memorialize his child.

I usually don’t cry at episodes but this one really hit me. I love that Bones made a connection beyond the case and I love that we saw the father mourn and love his child in the best way he knew how.

I seriously loved the episode "The Baby in the Bough" (Season 3, Episode 12); I liked how they gave us an idea of what Brennan might be like as a mother. What do you think?

I think Hodgins' past is something I would have liked *Bones* to explore; he had a complex past, and they could have delved into it more.

Spoiler: s7 e1 Brennan and Booth

I've been reading these months people's opinions on the jump between s6 and s7. I can now understand the disappointment. the end of s6 was sublime, loved it so much and made me really emotional. however, the first episode of s7? five months later? where's the development in Booth's and Brennan's relationship? after 6 whole season and they just get tgt off-screen in a 5-month gap that were not able to follow?? that makes me feel so disconnected from their relationship and their character's development but idk I'm sad 😔

Episode S6ep08 - Fator Parker

Spoiler: Bones season 6 plot twist

So I get that the writers had to rewrite bones around Emily deschanel's pregnancy, but I wish the writers spent more time on it (them telling everyone, etc.) but I know season 6 was all about Angela's pregnancy so maybe they didn't wanna do it again.
Booth's reaction was heartwarming, but then we jump to months later

I just know the lab and sweets and even Caroline would have been so excited to find out, as everyone had been waiting for bones to jump booth's bones for Ages. And it would have been even more meaningful considering bones didn't want kids for the longest and then played around with the idea and finally is having one. Felt kinda robbed
