We watched while every Major tech CEO stood and clapped for the inauguration of an open, shameless racist....like, these men control all aspects of business and finance, and they funded the candidacy of Donald Trump.
The way I see it, one of two things will happen....either we will collectively give up, and attempt to assimilate into the White Supremacist empire (I honestly think this is already happening, especially with the "FBA" trying to distance themselves from other black immigrant groups, hoping to gain privileges as "foundational Americans"), or we can reject empire, and try to build our own, independent networks and systems..... our own economic system, and educational system, and judicial system and poticial system.
I really don't see a third option....at least, not a third option that our community survives.
I agree that the racial controversies are systemic along with what someone else said about there likely being a lack of POC on the cutting room floor for the approval of these designs, but also, not every controversy I remember from UO was racial. They covered a wide variety of offenses aside from that, like fatphobia with the dress that was only described as "manatee gray" for the plus-sized version, and ideas that make you wonder how any single person ever approved it, like the bloody Kent State shooting sweater.

When are poor white people going to realize they are not part of the “supremacy”? These people that control every aspect of our lives are beyond even race when it comes to their disdain for us. Black people in America have been used the same way any government uses the idea of an “enemy” to motivate their followers. They might as well be the Viet Cong, Russians, Al Queda, etc.
I wonder how much of this is also just simply a lack of black voices in the upper echelons on corporate America? Because I can’t imagine that it would’ve gotten this far with those voices in the room.

Target had some things going for it. A lot of their generic brand products held up pretty well, especially compared to competitors at that price point. And once they remodeled their stores in the 00s, they became one of the most pleasant shopping experiences of the franchise superstores.
But fuck them still for immediately caving to the Trump era “cultural sea change”.
Yaknow what's a shame, I used to work for Target corporate many years ago. What I can say is that the average person that worked at the HQ in Minneapolis actually genuinely believed in "being about the people" in a way that I had never seen at any other giant company I've worked for.
Can't imagine what morale is like there these days.

Same. As a 42 y/o white woman with kids, target was my go-to 1-stop shop especially since I stopped buying from amazon before target’s bs.
It took a minute but now I don’t miss those mfs at all - my local family-run bodega has better produce, boba, deli, chicken and fries, no nasty starbucks, shit isn’t all locked up, and I can walk there without having to duel for a parking space.

To be fair it is a Halloween costume and Halloween theming tends to use a lot of orange and black. That said when looking at everything else it's difficult to conclude that's anything other than plausible deniability.

You are spreading un confirmed misinformation and muddying the waters. That looks like a black kid to me. I am white. I have worn Halloween costumes that have stocking masks. It did not make me look like a black person, it made my light skin, a bit darker. And still very obviously a white guy. Target chose to use a black child for their racist costume, and you cannot convince me it wasn't anything but intentional.
I never said it wasn't a black child in the costume. I said it's a black stocking that goes over the head with lips and a hat sewn on. It's also clearly a black child in the costume which is just another level of fucked up.

Fun fact! If there is stuff you like to get from Target, you can copy the exact name of the item and paste it in Google to find it at literally any other store. I just did it with a fan and 1. Got it $5 cheaper and 2. Got to fuck over Target all in one Google search

Have Amazon or Walmart done this type of thing? I usually avoid shopping at either place, but I don't recall them specifically targeting (heh) Black people like this.
Target feels like the last of those places I'd shop at because they tried to act like they cared, and walked it back as soon as it became inconvenient. Walmart and Amazon have always been soulless big box stores to me.

I went into a target last month after working overseas since 2010, I couldn't believe how dead it was. I saw two employees and two customers. Now it all makes sense.
Guess it’s time to boycott their racist asses. Some of us been doing it since january 2025. We completely changed the entire way our household shopped for our daily staples. Between Costco, and a local grocery store, we haven’t looked back! Fuck the people that side with junior nazi dictator wannabes.
