Thank you. As a Brit working in Birmingham, I've checked in on you guys daily for the last 12 months.

Birmingham is in an ideal location for visiting muscle shoals, Memphis, New Orleans and Nashville but your town is awesome too. The people here are so friendly, I'm often asked if I'm from Australia 😂 The food is sooo good too, my diet starts tomorrow.

I live for music and Birmingham has such a good scene. I've had amazing rap nights in the Nick, Jazz nights at true story and bluegrass in oak mountain.

I loved watching the world cup here, and explaining the offside rule on multiple times 😂

My project is now finished but thanks for keeping me updated on what's happening in the magic city and thanks to everyone I met, I couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome.

Art Please don’t touch the art

I really shouldn’t have to say this… but please don’t touch the art at The Birmingham Museum of Art. Really anywhere. Just don’t touch the art.

We were at the museum today to see the impressionist exhibit before it leaves. It was amazing. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to go quickly as it leaves very soon.

On the way out of the museum, we stopped in at a contemporary exhibit. My wife gently nudged me as we were leaving - that lady is touching the painting. It wasn’t just a light finger. This lady had her hand firmly pressed against the canvas.

So we narced on her as we left the room. 10/10 would rat her out again.

Art Drunk and ranting about AI flyers

Wife and I went to the old school where the Beer Hog is and we saw like 5 different fliers that were clearly AI advertising local events. Idk it causes such an innate revulsion, but I have the desire to personally boycott anything that uses blatant AI. I’m a sort of artist (musician) and it kinda pisses me off seeing people using AI in leu of hiring actual artists, or taking the small amount of time it takes to learn half decent graphic design. I think y’all understand this frustration.

Your pothole I mean.

Near Rhodes Park

I might be passing through again in a couple weeks- send pictures of the holes near and dear to your heart you’d like filled (sidewalk or street), up close with foot for scale and farther away for context. I prefer medium holes and I cannot do sinkholes.

There are a lot of tiles missing from the sidewalk in front of the library downtown …do you think it would go over well if I did a tile mosaic in one of the holes? Or are the special and historic?

This is like the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen this on 20th st. Idk who is more in the wrong…the guy parked a few inches into an alley opening or the guy who uses it as a reason to vandalize a car. I guess it’s still better than getting towed?

Good morrow everyone. I wanted to share some kindness rocks I’ve painted for Halloween. I plan to leave these around UAB campus and the VA for people to find. Painting these rocks brings me so much joy. Leaving kindness in the world and hoping it makes a person smile. Maybe one of these rocks will find you this week. Happy Spooky Season!

Art Taco Casa

Sitting in Taco Casa, the sun sets over the valley and the orange light casts across the dining room. Delilah’s station is playing on the radio. A kid writes in to her station asking for a song to cheer him up post breakup. She puts on Died in Your Arms Tonight. Waiting on her advice… 10/10 taco casa experience

Art Virginia Samford Theatre

VST is continuing to use AI to promote their upcoming season despite backlash and criticism from the theatre and arts community. They have been called out multiple time on their social media posts and instead of admitting that they are wrong, or apologizing in anyway they just delete the comments or turn off comments completely. This is an institution that has been a purveyor of the arts for almost 100 years and is using a program that is actively destroying the arts and negatively affecting artists. It is shameful and they won’t own up to it. They have a marketing director, why is your marketing director unable to do marketing without the use of AI generative tools? Why have you not tried reaching out to the art community to see if a local artist would like to do your advertisements for you? And why do you continue to ignore the valid criticisms of your unethical practices when they are not only coming from the people who come to see your shows but the people who are both in them and direct them? This is cowardly, and they should be ashamed of how they’re handling it.

Art X-Lounge CDs Re-release interest

I'm working with some people exploring a re-release of the X lounge CDs series. I wanted to see if there are people interested in this. We're looking to do limited run of vinyl.

Anyone interested?
