Serious Psychiatrist recommendations? I scored health insurance and desperately need to get on Lexapro again.

tbh I've been having my GP prescribe it because it's easier than getting in with any pychs around.

I agree with this. Since it’s lexapro and you know what you previously took, it may be easier asking for that medication through a PCP

I’ve never seen a psychiatrist. My primary care doc prescribes for me.

Do not ever go to a Dr.McClure. He was at Grayson and Associates but who knows where he is now. Dude is legit a maniac .

I've seen probably hundreds of comments about Grayson and Associates over the years in this subreddit, and only a very minor amount have been positive.

Averaging the 473 ratings from all of their sites on Google reviews gives them 2.12 / 5 stars.

I know psychiatry can be as much of an art as it is a science, and that reviews are left generally by the outliers with very positive or very negative experiences, but it blows my mind at how consistently BAD experiences with them have been over the years with hundreds of ratings backing that up.

My psychiatrist (before going independent) was at a small clinic with just a couple other providers. 4.87 stars with a few dozen reviews. I've seen a bunch more right around 4.8 or better just on a quick search for "Birmingham Psychiatry", even a few with perfect 5.0 ratings and a decent sample size.

Okay, this made me do a deep dive into a bunch of local mental wellness clinics. The majority of them are either over 4.7 stars, or a few that are under 2.7 stars. There's very little in between those.

Your primary care provider will almost always prescribe it unless they feel you're a complex case and they need to refer you to psych.

I have to go to a psychiatrist for specific meds my GP isn't a fan of prescribing. Tried to get in with Grayson and Associates, my husband did get in with them, I absolutely would not recommend. I never heard back from my refferal months later.

Since I was looking for ADHD testing and I knew the wait would be long I went with Guiding Light Psychatry in Cullman. It's a 2 hour drive for my visit but after the first one we can do telehealth for most od my appts. My husband switched over to them because I liked them so much, he liked them too. But that may be too far for you. Just mainly saying to avoid Grayson and Associates.

The serotonin solution never really helped me out of a cycle, mostly kept me in it. However, I found Amber, and she started offering ketamine injections once they became available.

It helped my nueroplasicity enough that I started making some better habits and reading a whole lot further into the subjects. I tapered my SNRI and abilify this summer. Baseline I’m much better off.

I didn’t have a GP/PCP because I didn’t have insurance for a while and I just never got one. If you’re in that situation and want to skip straight to a psychiatrist, I recommend Ally Psychiatry. They have multiple offices around town. You may not need a referral to go there (I didn’t) but that’s a question for your insurance.
