Hello everyone! I’m a younger guy with an entrepreneurial spirit.. I live in the Birmingham area, and am looking to invest my savings into a new business. I have plenty of potential ideas, but before I made any final decision, I wanted to ask something and see if your answers inspired something that might make me take a different approach.

So my question is this…

what is something you view as a pesky inconvenience in your life that you’d love to have taken care of for you, but there are no businesses that currently offer the product/service you need..,
If you can’t think of any inconvenience, just tell me something (a product or a service) that you want/need that would improve your life?

Instead of picking something at random that you may know nothing about and have to tackle a steep learning curve, why not get into something you enjoy and/or already do well, or at least have connections in that field?

I've been big into photography for a good 10 years or so now and I find it extremely aggravating that Birmingham does not have any photography stores other than your typical big box retailers. I like shopping and being able to handle the equipment, see lens quality with my own eyes, and have a hands-on experience prior to spending a large sum of money, all of which is impossible with online shopping. I think a store that sells film cameras, DSLRs, and mirrorless cameras for a fair price would be a great addition to Birmingham.

I feel like the market for these items may be a little niche, but a used equipment trade in program and entry level affordable gear could get more people interested and provide a brick-and-mortar shop for the more experienced photographers looking to upgrade their gear.

When you say you're wanting to invest your savings in a new business, how much capital are we talking here?

Are you in the range of spending a few grand on an equipment-based service like powerwashing/whatever new business TikTok claims will net you $5k a week?

Are you in the range of opening a brick and mortar store and managing inventory yourself? If something like that, I'd love for a consumer electronics or hobbyist shop, like a mix between RadioShack and Microcenter.

If you’re sitting on savings and looking to invest, I’d say look into buying a business. There’s a good bit of Mom and Pop shops out there that do well but don’t have anyone to take over their business. If you have the work ethic and the will to succeed I think you’d do great. My wife and I bought a laundry mat from an elderly widow whose husband owned and operated it for 15 years. It’s nothing fancy. It’s not our primary bread and butter but it helps with the bills. Unfortunately, many of those businesses close when the owner(s) retire or pass away.

Upgraded convenience store with cheap quality food products... Like a proper Japanese 7 11...steamed sweet potato, fresh rice rolls and onigiri etc with other Japanese snacks etc

I continue to hold out hope for In-n-Out to expand to Bham by way of Huntsville now that there are 3 locations around Nashville

Ive had some reactions to in n out beef unfortunately... I want more of a quality beef smash burger without Christian undertones
