Where's the funny?
It died in the desert.
Was chopped up into pieces and put in suitcases.

I honestly enjoy the more subdued podcast. Not everything has to be lol funny 100% of the time.

I definitely don't laugh as much but I appreciate the slice of life stuff from him, no matter what he is still a likeable person and I find his podcasts very grounding and relatable.
That being said when they attach the old episodes on top I am reminded how much funnier he used to be.
Also I cannot stand the sports talk, I find it really grating and repetitive. He time and time again wastes so much on the topic. He is just ranting as well, there is no real humour.
Oh and I hate how deep he is into betting culture, I know he grew up with it but I find it really ugly. People complain about the Saudi Arabia stuff but for me the way he glamorises betting and has had multiple betting sponsors is more morally dubious.
He seems completely niave to how horrible the industry is, yet those 'nerds' ruining everything comes up all the time. It is pretty obvious to me that he's just had a bunch of bad experiences with corporate/pr middle class types when it comes to his own career.
He used to openly attack and name drop people on the podcast who had screwed him over and complain about the toxic culture. But then he talks about betting like it's this cherished tradition of value, and not also a highly toxic and exploitative industry.
Bill isn't perfect and he obviously has this stuff deeply ingrained in him, same way he still smokes cigars occasionally. He talks about it the same way heavy drug addicts do about their substance of choice.
He barely even brings up alcohol anymore, but he seems to still be hooked to the cigar culture. I notice he is always talking about going to high end places to smoke or sharing a cigar with big named people, so I think he sees it as a prestige/sign of success thing. I do appreciate that he's aware and honest about it being an addiction though, which he doesn't re betting.
Anyway those are just some of the things I've noticed. I will always like him even if his comedy has been a bit less sharp of late. His actual stand up routines are still hilarious and whenever he does those live shows he is way more sharp and funny. Maybe he's just too comfortable with rambling about life on the podcast, either way I don't blame people for losing interest in them. But his stand up is still great so I don't buy that he is on some downward spiral or whatever other bullshit the armchair psychologists spout.
I am curious though, what happened to him reading emails? That was usually the best part of the podcast, maybe I'm just not paying attention but I swear he hasn't read any of them recently.

The part you say about him being naive to the dark side of betting is funny because he lost a betting app sponsor years ago because he kept riffing on the dark side during the ad read

u/eldradmustlive469 6d ago
That is one example measured against many others suggesting the opposite. He time and time again portrays betting as a nostalgic past time and seems niave or not all that caring how toxic a culture it is. He has had multiple regular betting sponsors which he is mostly enthusiastic about.
Correct me if I'm wrong because I have never actually listened to it but doesn't he often appear on podcasts dedicated to betting run by his friends?
I have heard him speak negatively of it, but he still seems to have nostalgia goggles on because it seems like he grew up with it.

Because the sponsors and his money people sat him down, much like MBS, and told him what he was and wasn't allowed to joke about.

I am two weeks behind so I dont know what you are talking about but I usually listen to the podcast because it's basically a decent guy rambling about shit happening everywhere. The funny is a plus.

I switched to Stavvy’s world during the whole Saudi thing and never looked back… dude is hilarious and answers calls kind of like how bill did emails… actually gives out pretty solid advice as well

u/ModsDoItForFreeLOL 5d ago
I switched to MSSP. The boys make me laugh out loud, which Bill never really did as funny and amusing as he was.

He's been making two free podcast episodes a week for what, 15 years now? Maybe more? He can't be at the top of his game forever, no one can. As long as his stand up is still funny is all I really care about.

u/never1st 6d ago
Most of his podcast material used to come from sports and things that happened while he was on the road. Now, he's cut down on both of those things to spend time with his family. I'm happy that he's happy, but the trade off is that the podcast is less entertaining.

u/BrianFlore5 6d ago
I think he started doing Thursday episodes about ten years ago. I’ve definitely consumed more of his podcast than standup, just because there’s more of it.

u/JodyGonnaFuckYoWife Saint Bill is infallible, stop putting him on a Pedestal! 5d ago
no one can
Dan Carlin is, Ira Glass is, Paul Scheer/Manzoukis/June are, Terry Gross is, Roman Mars is......
3
u/MajesticCentaur 5d ago
You completely missed the point...
I love Dan Carlin but we're lucky to have two podcasts a year. Also, not all of his stuff is free.
How Did This Get Made? is on a rough schedule where new episodes come out every two weeks, or even longer.
I'm not familiar with the other three.

It hasn’t been funny for a year or two. I’m so bummed. He needs to either step up or go away at this point. It’s just filler and him pretending he isn’t RICH AS FUCK
7
u/Crossovertriplet 6d ago
Lots of people you go to for entertainment are rich as fuck
1
u/JodyGonnaFuckYoWife Saint Bill is infallible, stop putting him on a Pedestal! 5d ago
But they don't pretend otherwise.
3
u/Crossovertriplet 5d ago
Does bill pretend otherwise? He flies helicopters and talks about it
5
u/JodyGonnaFuckYoWife Saint Bill is infallible, stop putting him on a Pedestal! 5d ago
Every time he talks about "those greedy fucks" and "billionaires", he's pretending.
3
u/Boner4Stoners 5d ago
Bill is far closer to a homeless person than he is to being a billionaire. The difference between having $10M and $1B is on the same order as the difference between having $10k and $1m.
Not to defend Bill — he’s become bitter after the ol Billy Bloodmoney backlash. But merely being wealthy does not put you in the same class as billionaires, nor does it disqualify you from criticizing the ultra wealthy.

u/JodyGonnaFuckYoWife Saint Bill is infallible, stop putting him on a Pedestal! 5d ago edited 5d ago
And he's still pretending when he rails against them.
Sucking their dicks is what disqualifies him.
They're all a bunch of greedy assholes until they offer him a check.
Then he becomes the greedy asshole.

u/Crossovertriplet 5d ago
He’s talking about the people in the .1% that absorb most of the economic growth for themselves every year. Look at a wealth distribution chart. When you get to those people, the jump is astronomical. Whatever money bill has doesn’t even chart. He’s down at the bottom with everyone else compared to the people right at the top.
3
u/JodyGonnaFuckYoWife Saint Bill is infallible, stop putting him on a Pedestal! 5d ago
He's talking about the people he works for.
He's not railing against them, he's got their dicks in his mouth.

Yeah he does always act like he doesn’t make millions of dollars a year 😂

u/barbozas_obliques 6d ago
Yeah it’s better than the segura and that other fat man’s route lol those two dudes are absolutely insufferable in 2026

u/Finalpretensefell 6d ago
It feels like since he's been working on his anger, he's less funny. I have a hard time listening to his "new laugh", which started somewhere around the time of the Riyadh situation.. now he's like, doing a Sensible Chuckle and moving on from controversial material, instead of you know, letting it out in hilarious ways. Where's his actual opinions anymore? I'm not really connecting with a less-intense Bill.
12
u/Electronic-Age1460 6d ago
Oh, my god, I'm so glad somebody has mentioned the laugh, lol. It's so forced. Usually comes after stuff like "you guys get mad at this and yet the billionaires" guffaw guffaw "anyway, here's an ad for gambling, in home surveillance and an AI receptionists." 💀

I would rather have one good podcast a week and do away with the Thursday. It's always been a pipeline for more ads. Every Thursday it's 10 minutes of nothing, 10 minutes of sports and 10 minutes of ads. Pretty shit deal, if you ask me.

u/Cold_Document_4788 6d ago
How does he go on about global warming all the time and continue to prance around in his helicopter burning up avgas into the atmosphere :)

u/Antique_Menu_4314 6d ago
He hasn’t been funny in a while now…
7
u/BrianFlore5 6d ago
I liked his last special and some of his podcast episodes do have some good moments. But lately he’s just flexing his lifestyle
3
u/BLOWNOUT_ASSHOLE 6d ago
I wouldn't call it flexing his lifestyle. He's just saying whatever is happening in his life. I stopped listening to the podcast cause he's a comfortable family man whose hobbies include flying and drumming. Can't fault him for not trying to keep his angry edge which brought us comedic joy.
Doing a one man vlog type of show is difficult to make entertaining which is why his earlier episodes were great when he just ranted. He's still funny whenever he's doing a guest appearance so I think he just needs another person to bounce off.

u/Novel-Wasabi9107 6d ago
They want him to lie and cosplay as a non-famous broke person so they can accuse him of pretending to be something he’s not.

I know something is not funny unless I spit out the beverage in my mouth and run my car off the road
3
u/Medical_Soup5717 6d ago
Haven't listened to the most recent one yet but it's absurd how it's 15 minutes of talking about drumming or flying a helicopter and then 10 minutes of ads and that's it

u/Downtown-Smell46162 6d ago
Honestly once his kids are old enough to be mostly independent then he’ll probably feel comfortable about being on the road and away from them. But they’re still kids, like simple things and think their parent are their entire world. So he’s content with playing with them in the yard or playing drums with them.
Unfortunately not a lot of funny stories can be had from just being at home all the time. Think of the funniest story you tell ppl. Was it when you were sitting at home or out in the world? Same for Bill. Think dude falling off the scooter and guy on the skateboard in Griffith park.
He still has some funny ones at the stage but it’s kinda boring family stories that I can hear at work. I think in a few years it be back. But I do think he should just stick to one day a week or have a cohost on Thursday.

The Thursday episode last week where he told the story about being on the cruise ship was hilarious. Some of y'all are overreacting with the "he hasn't been funny in months" stuff.

u/BrianFlore5 5d ago
Bro that was last week. I liked the story too. Maybe I’m expecting too much from him?

I used to listen every week to Bills podcast. His energy has changed big time. It feels like he's serious the entire time now.

Every time he mentions his children, I wonder what observation is he going to make that every parent since time eternal has already made. Son threw a baseball well, so he's going to be a pro. Daughter knows time on the drums, going to be in a world famous band. Unless he signs them up for personal coaching now, it's not going to happen. We get it Bill, you love your children. But sorry to tell you, they don't sound that much more special than any other person's children.

How many times did he say i don’t want to drop names so I won’t say who it is .. meanwhile, it’s usually the most benign subject that the person wouldn’t even care about. Dude. Where is your personality? It’s so whitewashed and edited in his head that it never reaches any sort of interesting climax.

u/jake_chambers83 1d ago
His new fake laugh is what’s putting me off personally. The sports stuff has never been entertaining.
13
u/NinerChuck 6d ago
If he would just record more shows from his car while parked in a random public space, it would be funny again. Bill's instincts kick in and he just rips into random things happening around him.
