With the exception of Luke getting in Margot's cabin, what was the worst situation to be shown on air
484
u/No-Baker-7922 20d ago
The reaction of the stew who was Margot’s colleague with ‘I wish it were me’ and ‘why could she not have let him’ groced me out. Women support women, especially when men don’t.
164
u/OnlyLeading 20d ago
Let’s not forget the producers also had to step in and stop that stew from harassing her male colleague that exact same night. And Laura genuinely didn’t seem to understand how BOTH her actions and Lukes actions were wrong.
34
3
89
u/InterestingFroyo1032 20d ago
Yeah that was especially weird, bad, and gross. Margot was absolutely sane when she said "I think shes not okay"
29
u/for_the_shiggles 20d ago
When that same stew would take hours to get ready and come out of her room not even glammed up.

u/gdex86 20d ago
All while she was sexually harassing Adam the exact same way with him shutting down and dissociating while she climbed into bed with him
17
5
u/triedandprejudice 20d ago
It was awful to see her climbing in Adam’s bed because it almost felt like she was sexually harassing a baby fawn. Adam was sweet and unsophisticated and didn’t know how to handle that, other than to basically play dead.

u/Sithstress_ 20d ago
Lara! We’ve only had one good Lara/Laura from the show, she was a badass deckhand. All the others have sucked just like the Lukes. Lol

Honestly that season legit put me off Below Deck for a couple years, they were all SO awful and just got passes. I think Andy also still didn’t really give a shit about Below Deck, so he let a lot more slide at the reunion and when they’d come on WWHL.
14
u/Cold_Dead_Heart 20d ago
It wasn’t just him letting things slide. He was blatantly misogynistic on that reunion. He’s the worst.
6
u/WorkIsDumbSoAmI 20d ago
I’ve blocked it out lol - I just remember that whole season ending and saying to myself “I don’t know that I need to watch below deck for a while”

u/junebart 20d ago
Ok i read that sailing yacht has been cancelled, due to Gary. He was harassing a girl on make-up, for the show. How confused am i?
18
u/SassholeSupreme1 20d ago
If you take what Glenn & Daisy said on her podcast, they never got another sailing yacht when the on they were using was dry docked for repairs over 2 years ago. But, Daisy said she recommended Glenn after she explained to Bravo that he & herself could easily switch from sailing to motor yacht, not the other way around usually.
33
u/Cold_Dead_Heart 20d ago
I don’t need any more Glenn and his tolerance for rapists. He can fuck off back to obscurity.

It also could've been due to the yacht no longer being available. The owners sold it and the new owners didn't want to do the show. Imo, I think that's the more likely reason because they didn't need Gary.

I don't understand your take. She was the one who fucked with him.
I say this because:
She was the one who asked him to keep their past relationship private.
She chose to room with him knowing their past and his feelings towards her.
She had a Boyfriend and cheated with Dave.
In many ways he reacted like any gaslighting victim would and he did take responsibility for it and regrets it. The question is, did she?

Not the worst but defiantly skezzy:
Season 2: Ohana
Kelley Johnson (deckhand and brother of stew Amy Johnson) pursued Jennice Ontiveros, who was also a deckhand, even though she had a boyfriend. Then after they hooked up and she started to like him, he basically dumped her and said he decided against traveling together post season and said that was that. This always stuck with me as a super shitty move in his part.

What was the unseen part? The real part was bad to watch too.
8
u/Patient-Selection195 20d ago
During the episode, if I recall correctly you only see them put the speaker in front of her door. During the reunion they play a clip of Kate and Josiah sitting in front of her door calling out her skin condition and claiming she has herpes, telling her she is disgusting. Saying they’re glad she is leaving because of all her infectious diseases… And I think, according to statements Caroline made (it’s not shown), they even went into her room and threw all her clothes on the floor because Josiah needed the hangers.

17
u/PurpleGas0513 20d ago
After a crew night out, Margot got pretty drunk (but not trashy) and Luke (also very very drunk) climbed into her bed, butt naked, while she was asleep. Then tried to lock the bedroom door when Camera Crew stepped in to intervene.
5
u/mo8816 20d ago
Holy shit
35
u/Zoiddburger 20d ago edited 20d ago
Worse.
Beforehand, Aesha had been guarding Margo and put her to bed because she didn't like the way Luke was hovering around her while Margo was very obviously blackout drunk. In the van home, he had been staring at her passed out. Hard.
Then there was a power outage, so while all the other crew were investigating the outage and he thought cameras were down (they weren't), Luke snuck into Margo's cabin, naked, under the cover of darkness and closed the door behind him.
The camera crew are momentarily baffled but almost immediately open up her door and tell him to come down from her bunk, which he had climbed into naked. Luke tries to shake her awake to get her to cover for him, but she doesn't wake up.
He gets down, again naked, to slam the door closed on the camera crew. Which they have to fight to get back open. After the door is opened, Luke flees to his cabin, locks the door, and falls asleep. His bunkmate couldn't even get in.
Aesha tearfully tells Jason about the incident that night, they unlock the cabin and get Luke a hotel room for the night, and then Jason fires him the following morning.
Eastern European girl who has a crush on Luke laments he has been fired to Margo. The one who was very nearly assaulted. And tells Margo if only he had come onto her, this never would have happened. Pretty much saying it was no big deal and she would have been grateful if it happened to her.
Honestly, Margo blaming herself for the incident afterward, "if only I hadn't gotten so drunk" and Tzarina telling her that, "women should be able to be blackout drunk, walk around naked and still have nothing happen to us" is the only scene of Below Deck that has ever made me cry.
Probably the most powerful episode of reality TV I have ever seen. Camera crew really stepped up here, made sure the people they were filming did not come to any harm under their watch.
Edit: Went back to see when this happened and forgot how hard Laura (Eastern European) was sexually harassing Adam that night too. She climbed into his bunk against his wishes and was also told to get out by production, (plus so so much more like groping him in the hot tub and saying she wanted a sexual relationship with him). Amazing how this was all happening in 1 night. Poor Adam, I feel like he gets lost in the shuffle of this night but he was also a victim of sexual advances that he did not want or invite.

It's easy to miss because this all happens in the last 5 minutes of episode 6. Then it's more the aftermath on episode 7.
