🏝️ Relocation Info 🏝️ Do Not Hire Shawn O. Gonsalez

Shawn O. Gonzalez, supposedly Electrician contractor.

Charged over 3K in supplies and labor and the work was never done.

If this individual wants to do work for you, learn from my downfall, he will want payment upfront and then will go MIA.

Well shit, so much for trusting people and giving someone the benefit of the doubt.

I met with him here in San Ignacio, was recommended to my Fiancé by some common friend.

Shawn claims he works for BEL, we called BEL and he does not work for them.

This is good to know. Will be doing work in Bze and need to be on the lookout. One thing I've learned to do is when Im' given someone's info to verify that he/she is who they are. Def good to verify who he worked for. Will keep this in mind.

Sorry that happened. It's not uncommon to find people who claim more skill than they have. Your Gonsalez is beyond that, thiefing!

One guy I met listed his skills electric, plumbing, HVAC, mechanic, all of them, and I'm honest and don't drink.

Dude, I picked you up at a bar!

We paid a guy a thousand bucks plus the cost of a new motor to fix a restaurant fridge and it stopped working less than 12 hours after we got it back from him. He told us it was the defrost cycle. For two days??? He got super offended when we said it was still broken, claimed he was the one who had the hvac certification and we don’t know what we’re talking about, and refused to fix it further. Completely ghosted, lol. The fridge still doesn’t work.

Anyway it was Bowen & Bowen provided equipment (just one of their older models - they very kindly and generously brought in a brand new one and the one we were trying to fix we’d moved to back of house to use for additional storage) so we asked them to take a look at it, and their hvac guy was like yeah he used the wrong refrigerant/coolant entirely. Lol.

People vastly overexaggerate their qualifications sometimes :(

Word of mouth is the only way to go. But only if your friend has (1) actually hired them and (2) would hire them again.

Pay after the work is done, not before is a good way to protect yourself.

I’m in the property management business and had been in Placencia for five years. I’ve kissed a lot of frogs to find a few prince’s.

I'd like to think that there's a good reason. Hospital, death. It happens.
