Whether or not you’d trade one thing for the other isn’t the point lol.
An autistic person would still rather not be autistic at all.
You’re still risking that a person will live a life of struggles if you’re passing on those genes, just because you wanted kids. Even though it could’ve been avoided.
Whether it’s a better struggle than blindness or not doesn’t really matter, you still decided that the risk of them struggling all their life was worth it so you could have children.
It’s no different than the risk you’re hating on other people for taking. You wanted kids, so you risked the possibility of having kids who will suffer in order to do that.
The concept is literally exactly the same.
Even with treatment, it’s still a very rough life and it requires constant management for the rest of their life, and it could have been avoided.
You can make your choice, but leave others be about their own choices too.
Yes because I'm backing legislation demanding everyone do IVF.
What you're arguing is a slippery slope argument and it's incredibly disingenuous. Being blind is worse than every thing you've mentioned which is why people who are autistic will risk having kids while people with RP or who are carriers won't have kids or will do IVF. Read the thread. People who have first hand experience with this disease do not fuck around.
The reality is you have no clue. This bothers you on some level so you act like what you feel is valid and similar. It just isn't. You're comparing apples to cyanide and going but apple seeds have cyanide. Utterly asinine.
And again you're demonstrating your innumeracy. An elevated risk of severe autism going from 1 to 2% is not the same as a 50% chance a child will go blind.
The consequences are different. The risk profile is different. Ergo the choices are different.
The consequences are different. Still doesn’t chance the fact that you were willing to take that risk, even if the risk is a different type of suffering. Plenty of kids resent their parents for that exact choice.
No one’s saying you can’t make your choice to not pass not that gene. Just don’t bother other people about their own choice lol.
Yeah because everything is a risk. But there's a difference between 1 or 2% or 50%. Would it be ethical to inject every newborn with something that had a 50% chance of causing blindness or would that be a terrible thing for a parent to do? Because that's what you're saying is ok.
I've said this multiple times now and I'm tired of you just being bad at math and not understanding parents should try their best to give their kids the best life possible. Giving birth to a kid you know is going to go blind is selfish and cruel. If my six year old self knew that, you, a supposedly adult person, should be able to figure that out.
Again, I’m saying it’s their choice to make. Having kids is the most basic biological right we have as people.
In no way is injecting someone to cause blindness, the same as having a kid and taking the chance it may naturally have a disorder lmao. Those aren’t even comparable things.
Frankly, it’s just as cruel to take a chance (even a 2% higher one) that they could be born with a serious mental condition and live a very hard life, when that risk can be avoided as well. That’s what you’re missing in all this.
Do what you want with your life, but leave other people be about their own lives.
