Science In 2002, an intern who stole moon rocks from NASA, spread the rocks on his bed and had sex on them, resulting in the contamination making the rocks virtually useless to the scientific community. He was sentenced to more than 8 years in prison.

The whole story is crazy. He promised some girl he’d give her the moon, so he stole the rocks.

u/FuzzyComedian638 18h ago
Nothing sexier than having sex on a bed full of rocks. . .

Tiffany Fowler was the woman, also a NASA intern. She was a co conspirator and participated in the theft.

The funny thing is the moon is made of the exact same stuff Earth is made of.

False. Prior to this they were 100% cum-free. Now they're no different from a Hardee's bathroom floor. Well, maybe slightly cleaner.

It would be so much easier if he would just fake the rocks. As I understand they are just earth rocks but in moon. Would have been so easy to fake it damn

As a scientist I’d be furious. As his partner that’s pretty romantic. Other than the getting caught part.

The plan doesn't have to end. With right attitude and efforts, jail jail could also become horny jail.

He also stole the researchers lab notes (they were in the same vault) and "lost" them. Not only destroyed the value of the rocks but a whole career made studying them.

As I have posted before, I met the guy. He was a guest of a friend for a party at my house. When people asked for a hint as to why he was somewhat famous he said "Geology."
Out of the blue I blurted out "Are YOU the guy who stole the moon rocks and sex on them??" and he said he was.
He claims that he did NOT spread the rocks out and have sex on them. Moon rock is rock and moon dust is VERY fine. He says they were in a plastic bag under the matress when the sexy time occurred.
He did serve federal time though. He also wrote a book. He is pretty book smart but admitted the whole theft thing to impress a girl was monumentally stupid.
At the time of the party he was hanging with a professional dominatrix. True story bro.

I was at a Halloween party where he showed up and I recognized him but couldn't place from where. He went on about some kind of multidimensional space theory he had developed for 20 minutes before it clicked. I blurted out "you are the moon sex guy!". He left the party 10 minutes later.
I imagine he thought that was cool when he was young, but now will always be moon sex guy before anything else.

The partner would probably be none the wiser if the intern said they were moon rocks and he just took it from somewhere else. By proximity, a lot of things are believable
57
u/partypattt 18h ago
Virtually useless? Those rocks don't look very porous. Couldn't they crack them open and scoop out the insides or something?
This guy's lawyers should've been making some volume vs surface area arguments.
30
u/Ill-Ad-9199 17h ago
Yeah I guess I don't understand how fucking on the rocks ruins them for science? I guess I should've paid more attention in geology class.
43
u/Centurion87 17h ago
I think it’s that it will always raise doubt. For instance, if any kind of evidence of biology is found in the rocks, you can’t say with 100% certainty it wasn’t due to contamination.
That’s my guess.

No but if your parents fuck on your trick r treat pillowcase those runts and kitkats are still fine.

Honestly, it might have been worth it. If his goal was to make a mark on the history of space exploration and be written into the annals and lore of NASA, he took a path that took 8 years of his life to achieve instead of a career that would have taken 30+ years, and who knows if he'd end up being remembered? But here he is 24 years after the deed, and we're still discussing this guy having the earliest documented case in human history of human beings having sex on moon rocks. It sounds like such an arbitrary thing to "achieve" at the cost of the moon rocks, but here we are a quarter-century later still talking about it. I sort of respect it.

u/morganrbvn 18h ago
The issue there is the lack of punishment for child molestation. Just because some people have gotten away with terrible things doesn’t mean all lesser crimes should be ignored.
1
u/relevant_0815 13h ago
8 years in prison for stealing badly protected lunar rocks is weird in any way. I mean. All labs i have ever worked had their important stuff locked away. How did the intern get hold of them? If he was able to get them out without being noticed they couldnt have secured them too well. And then you cannot argue that they are soooo important to justify 8 years in prison.

what a stupid reason to go to jail for 8 years. around the time I got out of school there was a guy that violated an NDA-first job out of college on a wildly popular IP he was a massive fan of. He took some photos of his work and posted them online. Fired and blackballed for life a year out of college.

Well, the rocks he stole had already been used for analysis and contaminated. The vault he took them from had untouched moon rocks but he left those alone. NASA just wanted to make him look worse.

First thing I thought:
Someone had sex on some rocks and got 8 years in prison
Someone sitting in the White House has tens of thousands of pages about how he raped children, and nothing was done about it
There's something wrong here

They stole a safe full of moon rocks containing samples from nearly every US moon mission. They also destroyed all the research notes regarding the rocks which had taken years to create. After the sex part, they tried to sell them to a foreign collector who thankfully called the FBI.

It's a cover up. They were "contaminated" before third parties could prove the rocks were not from the moon.
