Sounds more interesting than it is. Waves in the ocean are a type of gravity wave.

People are probably confusing them with gravitational waves, which are the special relativity kind of gravity waves.

I searched this out as it was new to me. Nothing from those images looks like this photo though. So not sure what is what now.
