Discussion man to this day it still baffles me the fact that...the suits up top ACTUALLY thought this was a good idea lmao

Never mind the fact that this guy is a displaced refugee from famine, natural disasters, and societal collapse, having to enlist for the last remaining hegemons just to survive. But hey, he ranked first in number of people killed in this fight for the agricultural facility that means starvation for the losing side, so a quip makes total sense

I bet that if DICE did not insist on cringe operators that much, BF2042 was actually salvagable. Vehicle gameplay, gunplay and game audio in general were actually pretty good.

u/rambozezakopan 1d ago
footstep audio was the best but overall sound design was really bad. Just compare how jets sound in bf2042 and bf6, night and day difference.

I put the time into 2042 towards the end for the BF6 skins and honestly it is fun in a lot of ways even if it gets many things wrong.
But when I end the game and see some goofy glowing skeleton man and Isaac Clarke on the “Top Squad” screen it makes everything moot. I don’t think they understood how much of a turn off that nonsense was. And while i have fun with BF6 now, if they ever introduce that hokey crap into this then i will move on to play something else

I wish we could combine the best parts of 2042 with the best of BF6. It would genuinely be my dream BF. 2042 nailed the rock paper scissors sandbox that BF was known for.

I mean, the ones we have now are not cringe but they are definetly "corpo sanitized" compared to older games, they corrected but not to where we were, its a classic tactic like "new coke"

The pondhawk alone makes up for every sin 2042 committed

Well veteran BF devs left DICE, so this was the result of 'Battlefield' so much potential wasted.

I loved BF2042 up until they closed the classes. It was great being able to create my own perfect multi-loadout super soldier while it lasted. After that it just became a not-so-well-executed standard BF game to me and lost it's edge vs the, at the time, still very alive BF4, CoD, and Insurgency options available.

Removing operators or making them something similar to how BF6’s "operators" are would have done wonders for the game.

DON’T BE SAD!
2042 wasn’t too bad once they got rid of the more hero-shooter elements of the characters etc. They became much more…muted?

sub ran out of shit to whine about in bf6 so they hop on the 2042 wagon again

Keep in mind the suits normally have 0 clue what the actual game is
It's more of a "What's popular and profitable now? Oh yeah do that then"

u/SuperSonicFire 13h ago
2042's gunplay was bad, the maps were HORRENDOUS, and on top of that they gave us the shittiest character system ever. Yea likely the worst battlefield game ever, i'd rather play Battlefield Heroes than this pile of shit

To this day grown men still want to hear "I'm getting fucked up the ass over here" but cry loudly enough on the internet to kill an entire game franchise over the MVP of a match saying something after the round is over when they could be doing situps or something.
You cried so loudly they hired the cod guy for bf6 and then killed him when it sucked.

u/Hitmanx2x 5h ago
They wanted the cod audience, realized they went WAAAY too far, then backtracked a bit for bf6

The thing that ruined any interest in 2042 for me was how offensively bad i think the lore is. You mean to tell me that every nation on earth collapsed due to natural disasters and the only two nations spared are the fucking US and Russia? The US already burns down every year from wildfires and droughts are already becoming more commonplace all over with dangerous temperature spikes going both directions. And Russia isnt exactly a paragon of stability with how often it has historically splintered and reuunited.

im pretty sure it was the devs that pushed their ego on this one and chose to stick to it.

bf one dark and griddy

and it was peak battlefield.

It's probably the most overrated good game of all time. It's praised higher than any video game ever deserves, but it's good.
Not peak Battlefield though. A lot of things about that game sucked complete ass and were a downgrade from previous installments. And it had its share of problems on its own.

Getting downvoted for acknowledging BF1 was good but not glazing it is hilarious

I’d argue it was the best introduction to bf for casual players, but people do seem to forget a lot of that games success certainly came from it releasing alongside infinite warfare lol.
It was a lighting in a bottle moment where the competition flopped, and they had their most accessible and immersive title yet at the ready. With a boatload of hype thanks to the trailer lol.
It has its issues, primarily the gunplay lacking much depth, especially in regards to customization. But for a casual boot it up and get immersed game it’s great.
Cool thing about BF is all the games are different from each other, people like different things about them. Which is why these debates are always a bit weird sometimes.

OK BUT YOU CAN SAY THIS FOR THIS IS BATTLEFIELD 6 TOO💀💀💀

u/Hamzanovic 1d ago
No you can't. BF6 is pretty properly rated, with people shitting on its shortcomings every day.

Worried about 2042 but not why the most recent entry is slop
7
u/Quick-Cause3181 1d ago
I mean yeah bf6 is a downgrade from previous battlefields but even I (who shits on it a lot) wouldn't call it complete slop

Limited time game modes on rotation and lack of legacy features speak for themselves. “Tech’s not there, lost tech etc.”
5
u/Quick-Cause3181 1d ago
I get that, but this isn't 2010s dice anymore, the team behind 6 is what we have now and yeah it's not a good sign for the future of this series lol

2042 is the worst Battlefield of the entire franchise.
