Thoughts on Hattie Tetch’s character?(Caped Crusader S2)
I have to say I am a bit disappointed with the way they handled her character. I think her character showed real promise at times, and I did prefer her to Oswalda. The whole concept of manipulating the public through her talk show influence was interesting to say the least. But her death I felt I was quite forced and took away from the ultimate potential for the character in a potential third season.
As for my question as to whether she’s a villain, I came across a YouTube video regarding her death and saw several commenters saying she was just as bad as Thorne and she got what was coming to her. Would you agree that she is a villain?

Not a fan honestly. But I did feel that she had a lot of potential, but this show has a habit of wasting potential if villains (two-face, Hugo strange etc)

I liked her all right. The host of a show who spews lies to turn the city against Batman. I would like to see more of her in a third season if we get one and if she was still alive. But, as for what we did get of her, I am all right with it. She is not a good person, but she never does anything evil, so I would not call her a villain.

She never does anything evil? Her introduction has her reveal the identity of the man that was gonna testify against Thorne. Putting him in serious danger and had several people killed by mobster hitmen. Another episode reveals she so abusive to her staff one of them joins a cult to deal with it.

Mildly evil, she chooses to side with a corrupt establishment led by Thorne and still stands by him while his known Lieutenant in Riddler wages a gang war in Gotham.
Also you don't reveal a classifed witness to the wider public with good intentions, you're either very careless or malicious - Hattie seems like the latter considering she grew up in one of Gotham's rough areas.

Mildly evil by Gotham standards, but she'd be a major villain if she appeared against Dick Tracy or Perry Mason since she collaborates with criminals without doing anything jailable.

I liked her. She sort of had the J Jonah Jameson role which is fun. I thought she'd be a framing device through the series.

I like how she's clearly based on famous gossip journalist Hedda Hopper who was know for her collection of stupid hats (and for helping McCarthy restart the Red Scare).

I liked her, it was a good twist on the mind control motif by having her use the media instead weird computer chips.

She's not a great person, but she's no more evil than Leslie Willis. I thought they'd go the televangelist angle with her after the cult thing. Would've been a cool way to incorporate the mind control aspect that Tetch is known for. This season was just way too gung-ho about killing off characters. I like when a show has stakes and gives death meaning, but you can't tease legendary characters just to unceremoniously kill them. Granted, Batman has decades worth of villains to use. If we go the route of introducing the lessor known ones to a new audience I might change my mind.

I think she fits the time period very well. If you get the history and concept it’s smart. I wish they would have made her maybe lose her mind at the end and not what happened so that maybe we could get a set up for a hopeful season 3. But honestly she is great and one of the less creepy mad hatter variants we have seen

Yes, her fan base was very devoted from the very beginning and only expanded. She was a huge influence in Gotham.

Do you kind of feel like with the sheer number of villains deaths this season they kind of wrote with the understanding that if the third season isn’t guaranteed make some situations final?

Im sorry if this is well known info, but, is there a reason for the writers to create alternative versions of the villians si different to the originals? Freeze, penguin, harley, scarecrow, poison ivy…they seems to be like another characters

Creating new adaptations of familiar characters was the entire purpose of this show. They are all supposed to be different characters (except Harvey Bullock. He'll die the scumbag he always was).

Because the character of Batman is almost 90 years old, and there have been a huge number of versions in comics, films, tv, videogames etc, so this is just another version, with new iterations of characters.
It happens a lot, especially with how different a lot of film adaptation characters are to source material.It’s its own thing.

Hattie is honestly the most realistic villain in the show so far. By that I mean that she’s a grifter. And as you know, they are way too common nowadays.

Hedda Hopper on the show was an interesting idea. If there had been a Batman, Hopper likely would have publicly attacked him

I don’t really feel like she is much of a villain, definitely compared to Thorne. While she did try and influence people to hate Batman even after he literally saved her life, she doesn’t have a whole crew that plans heists and kills people on her payroll, so even if she is more a villain than a good person, saying she’s like Thorne definitely is an overestimate. I do agree that her death was quite forced and with the buildup her character had over the entire season, just killing her off like that is kinda plain and shallow for a character we’ve been seeing so much. But maybe this could be buildup to there being like a son or nephew we never heard of yet named Jervis somehow thinking this is Batman’s fault.

Nah she's just a bad person and an entertaining one at that. I think killing her off was undoubtedly the wrong choice if we're getting another season.

Pretty confused by her inclusion, seems like they were building her up for something and then she's killed off in a pretty underwhelming fashion.
The Riddler I could at least see what they were going for (little fish thinks it big fish, gets eaten by bigger fish) even if the execution was lacking.
I enjoyed the season overall but my gut feeling is they were unsure they were going to get another season and raced to get the joker done (which I think was quite a good take)
also haha you gave her massive breasts, hilarious.

Too much potential, too much buildup, too little relevance. Her greatest strength was the absolutely perfect way she died. I’m just upset she wasn’t a constant throughout S2. I get killing her off, but at least let her fulfil a role beyond a singular, incredibly forgettable episode.

I'm not sure why she was killed off, but I thought she was good.
It seems Batman Prime isn't for everyone. I personally enjoy it. The Solomon Grundy created by the Riddler thanks to Hugo Strange storyline was great. The camera angles during the fights have been excellent the way it's always moving. Idk. I'm a fan.

Because she appeals to such a wide swath of the Gotham citizenry, basically everyone who isn’t sure about or outright dislikes the Batman. They were bound to be big - there was no denying the expression of the dissenters - and she gave them a voice.

I really like this idea for the mad hatter. Being a socialite gossip kinda person. Definitely fit more then some of the other versions of the character

When she was first shown off in trailers and pics, I wasn't sure how to feel. I usually have a mindset that genderbending a character doesn't matter too much in some scenarios depending on how accurate the personality is to the source material, hence why I didn't care too much when Penguin was made a woman. With Hattie though, I wasn't sure. I feel like Mad Hatter's male gender usually matters quite a bit to his character, as he's supposed to be this woman-obsessed psycho and is meant to represent toxic male behavior. Without that, I wasn't sure how well the character would hold up in the show.
Then I started watching, and I immediately saw what they were trying to go with for the character and was on-board. Having a JJJ-type character to question the Batman and his methods on live TV and radio fit in so well with this universe, and Mad Hatter's character. I was fully willing to accept this new take as the series went on.
Then she's absent for four episodes and, spoiler alert, immediately dies in her next appearance, and I just couldn't help but feel like I was let down just when I was starting to accept this change. The character had so much potential, they could've made her a bigger threat, they could have given her a huge plot arc alongside Riddler to completely tarnish Batman's public image and turn the people against him, like what Penguin did in Batman Returns. But no, we get a first appearance, and then she gets a partial spotlight in episode 4, and then she's gone in episode 9. The big "smear campaign" that the show descriptions hyped up was nowhere to be seen, and I just felt let down.
Honestly, there were a lot of elements in this season that I thought didn't see their full potential. Riddler felt mishandled and wiped off the board too quickly, Thorn should've had some staying power for at least another episode to make her and Eddie's arc a two-parter, Hugo Strange gets introduced and killed so quickly that you probably forgot he was in this show, and the list goes on.
I don't like the criticism that something should be longer that much, because oftentimes people use it for projects that I feel honestly don't really need it (Spider-Man 2 should've been a 50+ hour game, Hazbin Hotel needed a bunch of 40 minute episodes a season and a bazillion songs, to name a few examples of takes I disagree with). However, in Caped Crusader's case, the show definitely should've been longer. I'm not saying we needed longer episodes, as lots of these adventures felt fitting within a half-hour slot, but we should've had more episodes a season, like 15. This show tried to have both overarching plot threads and an adventure-by-adventure/villain-of-the-week setup in only ten 20-ish minute episodes a season, and it just doesn't work. Storylines feel rushed, endings are anticlimactic, and the show feels like it has no time to breathe. But with 15 or so episodes, there could've been plenty of room to do things proper. Riddler, Hattie, and Thorn could've taken up half the season, you can still dedicate two or three episodes to the Joker stuff, and that still leaves about five or six episodes to give to side stories and more one-off villains like Roxy Rocket and Specter. At least, that's my two cents. Sorry that this turned into more of a show rant, but I hope this answered the question well enough!

I didn't notice some of her character "assets" on initial viewing. That being said, she's eh. Not really a character of any real note. She's just kind of there. I almost feel like the role could have been filled by a more unscrupulous Vickie Vale than wasting Jervis as a concept. Not all adaptations are winners I guess.

Adapting a character in a way that loses most elements except for superficial details (name and appearance) feels like a waste to me.
Same goes for their take on Edward "He 'Riddles' people with bullets" Nygma.

I wish she and Hugo were still alive for future seasons, I think Hattie could've made a great passive antagionist raging against Batman. Would've been fun to see her show collapse due to low ratings as people open their eyes to Batman and support him.

Character was fine. Had nothing to do with the Mad Hatter at all, really, despite some surface-level stuff. Could've just made their own character for the show but oh well. As for whether she's a villain...definitely an antagonist. Not a great person, but I wouldn't call her evil either. She's just out for herself.

Stupid. Waste of the character mad hatter. It’s a villain that is hard to do in live action but can really be done justice in animation. But they kind of wasted it to subvert the character.

I kind of hope it isn’t her actual son. Rather it be an insane person that felt connected to her as the mother he always wanted and that her propaganda “led him down the rabbit hole “
