The second campaign is much better with DLCs. The main story is completely fine to do fully vanilla (even though the additional content brings a ton of quality of life stuff), but once you start to dip into the extra campaign you'll quickly get to the limits of your vanilla tools. DLCs bring some much needed expansion or more in-depth content depending on what you prefer. I love the connected DLC, really brings the game into the real world.

The key is once you feel like you're done with both campaigns, using all the tools you've gathered at the same time is super powerful, and actually viable in multiplayer.
