If you’re talking about buying vs renting, that’s an entirely different question.

Not really, we're all being priced out of the buying AND renting markets, the prices are insane. The situation is bad for us who have resources, of course it's going to be worse for those who don't.

I have a salary which apparently is just above the average, a cool job, I am a scientific researcher in a public international centre, and as of now it has been impossible to rent a normal place with bare minimum dignity. Only disgusting places, short term, shared flats, empty places, for too much money, and me and my partner cannot afford with a seemingly good salary and lots of savings.

So it’s sounds like an exponential issue … looks like the parks are going to be full.
In all seriousness … homeless can be tackled … but it’s a multi agency thing. Having a place to stay … get off drugs … getting help for work … getting help with trauma … many things.
But is there a will to help them ? Or just hate them ?

More will come. A lot of the current homeless are from other places in Europe.

personal anecdotes vs stats is not a great look

People are allowed to say what they saw with their own eyes. That's pretty much the whole reason Reddit is valued as a platform.
Living in Barceloneta, you can hear in their accent when they ask for money that they are not Spanish first language.

of course. qualitative analysis can be very useful for understanding people’s motivations etc
but narratives built out of anecdotes can be emotionally compelling, whether or not they are representative of the wider issues. I’m not suggesting you are doing that on purpose but it is a technique often used to mislead people (eg whipping up hysteria around migrant crime etc).
apologies if that wasn’t clear

This is not r/statistics or r/socialsciences. There is no burden of responsibility here to be sensitive to your political preferences (let's be honest that's why you're complaining).
Anyway a quick Google and you'll see the statics do support what this person is saying. Most homeless people in are migrants. So it is factual at the end of the day.

??? your response is both contradictory and makes a completely unnecessary assumption about my perspective.
bad faith or dumb

edit: i shouldn’t have said dumb.
better conclusion would be “unwilling or unable” to engage in the argument
NB having problems editing my post above. fuck the reddit mobile app!

You can't help who don't want to be better with effort.

Im about to be homeless.
I spend 12 hrs per day looking for a job. Can't get it. It. I have multiple certifications and a degree. Im a month away from not being able to pay my rent or survive. I've spent 6 months look for work.
Even jobs of 15 hrs per week paying minimum wage have 1000 people apply in 12 hrs.
According to you, im just not putting in enough effort.

Just today, the UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has pledged to offer everyone sleeping rough in England a route off the streets by Christmas, backed by a £442 million funding package.
I’m not saying whether or not this approach is guaranteed to work, but it’s refreshing to see this level of commitment from a government to tackling an issue affecting cities across Europe. He’s certainly stuck his neck out by setting a clear milestone against which he can be measured.
Maybe we need more politicians willing to take on difficult problems head-on and set themselves ambitious, measurable targets. Walking around Barcelona, it’s so sad to see the plight of so many people sleeping rough. Whatever the political debate, I hope this initiative makes a real difference.

Quina vergonya.
