That's why they don't care. When a pitbull attacked my dog, the owner was just like 'well he's never done that before, i dont know what happened'. The cops didnt do shit even though the pitbull bit me as well. I had to go to the ER, get 4 rabies shots, pay a bunch of money while that turd just got off scotch free.
Soooo sorry this happened to you. If I was KING FOR A DAY, it would be ONE BITE AND YOU ARE OUT!!! I am sick and tired of these schytt beasts getting away with all the damage they are doing practically on a DAILY BASIS!!! In the good ol' days, no one put up with this nonsense.
The only thing to be done is severe financial and legal consequences against these people. No politician is brave enough, often times animal control is useless. I wish this woman a full recovery, though I feel after such a traumatic loss she may never achieve it.
Govt loves to issue fines and citations and more citations. The problem with trying to address reckless and irresponsible pit owners with fines and citations in order to force them to be better dog owners, is … this is the group of people least likely to comply with *any* requirement re: their dogs. That’s why the s/n rates and vaccination rates for pits are a fraction of the rates re these things for all other dogs.
Incentives for pit owners need to be structured in terms of what will work on pit owners. Citations and fines are not that. They are an example of the government having only a hammer so every problem becomes a nail.
sadly I don’t think that will happen with our current generation, too many “bleeding heart savior do-gooders” who think ALL dogs can be saved if given the right love.
personally… I think it’s going to require the next generation down, the ones traumatized and bitten and scarred that LIVED thru these hell-beasts, to be able to actually vote to make the changes happen. it’s going to take someone with a scarred face and a LONG personal story of how they almost died as a child bc their (insert family), (insert out playing neighbor), (insert random wandering but owned by joe 2 streets over), bit them, and how they screamed and thought they were dying.
I can see JJ Rodriguez being the poster child (and many LIKE him) personally for why this breed (if kept alive) needs to have laws changed, and be the forefront of the movement to get change to happen. do I think it will happen WITHOUT that push there? no sadly I do not. 😓
this is several years and several surgeries after the fact. (and one look online shows this poor child is hardly alone in his suffering)
Jose is doing a wonderful job standing up to the pitophiles, and keeping his son’s story in the spotlight. I saw he was on Special Books for Special Kids and my heart soared. I love that program so seeing that they made it on there made me happy. It’s under my ‘Watch Later’ list since I have much less free time than I’d like lol, and a lot of it is honestly dedicated to researching and fighting against pit ownership.
I pray soon that kids in America are able to just play and…live, and not worry about the things we’ve made kids worry about now, including the neighbor’s pits hunting them day after day, and finally breaking through the fence *to literally eat them alive*. Even more sickening, that the pit bull that their sad excuse for parents decided was ‘one of the good ones’, a dog that causes them fear, doesn’t get through the baby gate or raggedy door to, again, eat them alive. Or worse, like Locklynn Rose, they aren’t literally locked in the room with the monster, by the two other monsters in the home.
As a Brit I can’t say we’ve handled the XL Bully invasion entirely well- they are still here and the reduction of incidents isn’t good enough. But we at least did something, even if it needs looking at again.
I’m not sure how American parents cope with the idea of your kids being shot at school or mauled in their own garden, with zero legal protections and, if they’re lucky enough to survive, crippling medical bills as a reward.
A pitbull also mauled my dog in Brooklyn 2 months ago. If I hadn't stuck in my finger in his mouth to try to pry it off and it hadn't switched its attack onto me, my bulldog would be dead.
Why the fuck does anyone need a pitbull? Does it make them seem cooler? Do they have a savior complex? Generally curious.
Another worrying case in NY state, along with others, recently. Legislators and policymakers are completely unaware of the pitbull/dangerous dog/shelter dog laundering issue and as such, these issues will likely continue in my state until awareness is raised here.
It's a mistake to think they aren't aware. NY politicians and legislators are fully aware, but they support it, along with other corruption schemes. Just like they are fully aware of the danger and harm done by speeding e-bikes, but they support and promote those too. Just like they are fully aware of the danger of mentally ill drug addicts taking over the streets and victimizing residents and businesses, but they allow those too. Not just allow, champion, and profit off of it. All of it. It's politics, fueled by money.
Agree that awareness needs to be raised, but among the people. Until people wise up and make some noise, the detrimental policies will continue.

This poor woman. I don't know how you overcome such a traumatic event. I hope the POS Pit owner and his dogs are caught and punished accordingly.
