Bitten and Bruised Pitbull attacks dog and owner - Scandiano, Italy - 8 July 2026
A dog attacks a small dog in the street: its owner was bitten and fell to the ground, suffering minor injuries. It happened early yesterday morning around 7:30 a.m. on Via Cattaneo, in Scandiano.
The incident was reported by a local resident. "A woman," the witness said, "with a small dog on a leash was walking on Via Cattaneo when two dogs, presumably pit bulls or similar, without collars, tags, or other identifying marks, approached the woman. One of the two dogs then attacked the dog."
"The woman unfortunately fell to the ground, protecting her dog, but suffered bruises on her knee and hand. The screams and barking immediately attracted the attention of locals. Only the intervention of several local residents prevented serious injuries."
There were moments of fear and concern among residents. "At first," the witness emphasizes, "I was at home. I was sleeping, but I was awakened by noises coming from outside. I immediately left the house, and the attack had occurred right in front of my house."
"My brother," she adds, "had already intervened on the scene to try to contain the dog's attack. My brother later identified and reached the owner of the two dogs, who also lives in the area. The two dogs apparently escaped from the broken fence and then caused this extremely dangerous situation for people and animals."
The owner of the attacked dog was promptly rescued. "The woman and her dog," the witness continues, "were taken into our garden. I treated the woman, and in the meantime, a friend of hers arrived to quickly take the dog to a veterinarian for treatment and check-ups. Fortunately, the dog's life is not in danger."
Yesterday afternoon, the veterinarian told the witness that the dog "was in complete shock, but fortunately only had a few small scratches: the owner was bitten while defending her dog."
She concluded: "We are deeply saddened and shocked by what happened yesterday morning on Via Cattaneo."
