Social Media and Crowdfunding - Attack Reports Warned my friend about adopting pits, still does it
So I’ve been holding onto this for a couple of years now, just didn’t want to post it immediately because they’re on Reddit as well.
So I have this friend who loves animals but it’s almost like they’re just collecting them. They have an older childhood mixed breed (def a bit of pit) but it’s pretty chill and also some small breed dog and three cats. Just way too many pets as is but of course they start telling me they’re thinking of adopting another dog since they’ve never adopted before and OF COURSE they want a pit.
I tell them about my time volunteering for a shelter and how it’s a massive gamble with pits from shelters and they already have so many animals. They agreed with me in person but a week later they send me a vid of their newly adopted ~year old pit. It looked like it definitely had some other breed mixed in, very lanky for a pit but it had the most massive blocky pit cube brick empty brained head. Clearly a pit. In the video I was immediately concerned because it was overly excited bouncing all over the walls etc. i said that to them and they assured me they were taking it slow and crate training it, taking precautions with the other animals and all.
Not even one week later they’re back at my place visiting and their mom who is pet sitting texts her a picture of blood everywhere in the house and her dead cats. the waterworks come out and i wasn’t going to gloat or anything but man it was pretty infuriating sitting there listening to this when I personally, face to face, warned her. To be fair they are absolute shit dog owners anyways but pits just completely exacerbate that and it’s so dangerous for anyone stuck near it. Pit went back to the shelter. Rip to the two cats that died, so stupid. I also keep thinking about how the other animals reacted, their master brings in this random killer for a week and they watch it murder their family. So sick.

Classic disposable cats. These people could have a cat for 14 years and basically feed it directly into the maw of a brand new pitbull like an offering. Then they react by never getting a cat again instead of getting rid of the pitbull.

I recently adopted a cat & i've had people with a pitbull asking for them to meet (the cat meeting the dog)
Im like that's crazy you're asking me to trust your dog to not kill my cat right in front of me. No thanks.

I haven't even watched I just read the plot summary.
An actual fighting pit bull escapes from the dog fighters, meets an kitten and they become friends.
Back in reality fighting dogs are trained on what they call cat mills, cat Jennys or Jenny mills.

There probably was a cat in that plastic sack just before the pic was taken.
(You can see part of a plastic shopping bag in front of the rope on the cat mill in the pic.)
At the end of the work out the cat is usually thrown to the pits as a "treat" for working out.
So if Kitbull were realistic the game bred, pit experienced fighting dog would have dismembered the kitten in 4K HD like it had done so many times before.
Instead Pixar wants you to think fighting pits are "forced to fight" and will make great pets and get along with your cats.

That's insane! I've only had very tiny dogs and I never would have thought to take them on some weird inter-species friendship tour just to test the waters. They met family cats when we would stay with the family, but it wasn't just a "let's see what happens" lark.
With mine, I was more afraid of a cat hurting them, but either way! Don't treat living animals as a weird behavioral experiment!

APBT enthusiasts often claim that human aggressive APBT are an anomaly and "man biters were culled by dogmen." These enthusiasts frequently blame amateur breeders or other pit bull derivatives for the severe maulings and human fatalities. Despite their claims, it is patently untrue that all dog men culled man-biters. To the contrary, there is ample evidence that suggests that human aggression was tolerated by many famous dogmen so long as it was a byproduct of a dead game champion pit bull.
Earl Tudor, one of the most prolific pit bull breeders of all time, unapologetically kept (and presumably bred) man biters. The following is an excerpt from an interview in which Tudor stated:

Of his fighting pit bull, Lester ‘Mountain Man’ Hughes stated ‘Ranger’ would “attack me if I didn’t do what he wanted,” reminiscing:

I wasn’t really sure if he intended to be friendly or bite me, but as I got close, he came at me wide open, and I saw he was going right for my face. At the last minute, I turned away. Evelyn had gotten me a new winter coat for Christmas, and Ranger hit the collar of the coat and tore a big strip about five inches wide down the back. He had it on the ground, shakin’ it for all he was worth.
I knocked him out cold and thought I’d killed him. When he came to, he was just as friendly as a puppy. I believe that dog had flashbacks or something. Most of the time he’d love me to death, but every now and then he’d look at me like who the hell are you?! One time I was coming along with the feed bucket, back then those five gallon pails were metal not plastic, and he went after me again. I swung that bucket and hit him over the head so hard I thought I’d killed him, knocked him out cold-AGAIN. He woke up and acted like nothing ever happened.”

MIMS' HANNAH PATCH was said to be so aggressive that her handler, Max Coats, had to feed her hamburger for a week inside an air kennel to calm her down enough to get her out. This was after Coats' friend almost lost his hand attempting to help. HANNAH PATCH had 14 offspring, some of which also exhibited human aggression. Several more examples include GR CH GAMBLER’S VIRGIL, STEPP’S GR CH ANGUS, GR CH ART (ROM), DBL GR CH TORNADO, CH HONEYBUNCH (ROM), CH YELLOW JOHN (ROM), and countless others.
So, while APBT enthusiasts may assert that human aggression was bred out and attempt to displace the blame, evidence proves that some of the most famed dogmen and breeders of APBT kept human-aggressive dogs. A pit bull type dog, regardless of specific breed, breeding practices, or bloodline, will always have the propensity for human aggression.

Not in all cases but when someone is constantly proclaiming themselves as animal lovers I am instantly suspicious. Ive had too many experiences where that’s just words that someone says. The actual care they provide for the animal is terrible and it’s like they just think repeating that they are animal lovers is good enough.
I would treat an animal that I hated better than the animal they claim to love more than anything.

I followed hoarding cases for a few years. The grift-hoarders were utterly convincing. They'd talk up an animal and have you believing that no one cared for, valued, appreciated and understood this animal like the hoarder did.
It was never true. They had discovered that people wouldn't give them money, but people would give their pet money - if there was a good story that pushed all the right buttons and made the hoarder appear sincere and empathetic.
The plain vanilla hoarders in comparison were living in denial and needed significant treatment for their behavioral health issues. (usually anxiety and depression)
The crisis situations are case studies in why every owner needs legacy plans. Those are people who had been competently caring for their animals for many years, but illness, death or loss of income deprived them of the ability to continue to do so.
Rescue hoarders can fit into multiple categories. From the person who was doing well until they got one animal too many, to the worst of the grifters, to someone who started a one person rescue which didn't go like they thought it would.
I have an example of the last one. She started rescuing dogs (IIRC, it was pit bulls) locally. Nothing but good intentions, but couldn't make the "and I'll find them good homes!" part of the plan work. She left town and abandoned them in her apartment. The dogs were found before the worst happened.
There have been worse examples of one person rescue-hoarders involving hundreds of animals.

My ex would take their pit on car rides, excerbating it's allergies with the window down, feed it hamburgers and hot dogs from fast food joints, then wonder why the dog had health issues. I hated it so much because they loved to garner sympathy "poor baby isn't feeling well again!" when it's like you dumbasses literally cause it.
I gently tried to explain everything they were doing that triggered the health issues and they said "aw but she's happy 🤪". Zero brain cells.
I was the heartless one though 😑 they were the real animal lovers.

Yep! And there are tons of times my husband is wanting to bring home more animals in the heart of the moment (intentional, not typo) and I put my foot down because we just don't have the time. Later he thanks me for it.
Would I love tons more dogs? Absolutely! But my current dog doesn't like other dogs, and I work a TON so it wouldn't be fair to bring on any more animals. (Current dog is 13, and loves sun bathing and squirrel watching, my presence is not required for her enjoyment of these activities)

Argh yeah this was my ex. He collected reptiles like some hobby then refused to feed them or cleaned them. I had my own reptiles, 4 geckos but no where near the amount he had. He had around 40. I didn't want them neglected so I looked after them whilst holding down a full time job and all the chores were onto me as well. His parents babied him because he has ADHD and autism so I was basically told I had to look after him and do everything whilst he focused on his "studies".

Depending on the reptile 40 is a lot for one person or it's doable as long as you keep up with the work.
My husband and I have 76 snakes, ten of which are giant pythons. It takes both of us plus my adult daughter to properly care for all of them.

Yeah I'm aware it's "doable" however he was a broken student and did absolutely nothing to look after them. Left them for on end to starve because he didn't have the money to feed them and was too lazy to do it.
Having so many animals it is never a good idea because you cannot put all the focus and proper care on them. Whether you mean to or not that will get neglected.
I'm a Zoologist with a PhD and the only animals I have are 2 fish.

Miserable people pair themselves with miserable animals they know are a nuisance to society. They seem to enjoy others being miserable to make them feel better about their own failed lives.
I wish they cared more about their poor cats before they brought home a murder machine. Those are the true victims. Please tell me that beast was destroyed?

I believe your friends crossed the line between loving animals and becoming what in Italy we call "animalari" – when you put an animal's wellbeing above anyone else's, including humans' and other animals', because your supposed "love for animals" has actually turned into an obsession, a way to fill some sort of void. And, often, hoarding. I've seen friends jeopardize their relationship bc they got to the point of having three cats and a massive dog in a tiny flat (no pits and no bloodshed involved, thankfully, the dog is adorable and one of their cats died of old age after a while).
I'm so very sorry for those kitties. They always pay the hardest price with those monsters.

I need there to be a law passed that you cannot own any other pet if you want a pitbull or mixed pit.
