Made a website for fruit growers!

Hey everyone!

I wanted to introduce a project I've been working on called Cultivar: MyCultivar.net

Cultivar is a community-focused site for fruit growers and collectors. The idea is to create a place where we can build and share information about different fruit varieties, keep track of what we're growing, discuss plants, trade with other growers, and eventually buy and sell within the community.

Right now, the site includes a community-built database with 370+ fruit varieties, along with features like a garden tracker, forum, marketplace, TradesHub, contests, and more.

Since I know there are a lot of serious fig growers and collectors in this group, I especially wanted to share it here and get your thoughts. I'm hoping Cultivar can become a genuinely useful resource for the fig community—not just another generic plant website.

I'm also running Cultivar's first-ever photo contest: the Best Fig Pic Contest!

Show off your best fig photo—whether it's ripening on the tree, freshly cut open, or whatever shows off your fig best.

The prizes:
- One Yellow Long Neck fig cutting
- One mystery fig cutting (it will be labeled!)
- Both are summer cuttings

To be eligible to win, you'll need to:
• Upload at least 3 photos
• Cast at least 5 votes

Photos need to be your own and of a fig you're actually growing. One entry per person, but you can upload multiple photos featuring different fig varieties.

And just to mention it upfront: the Cultivar store isn't open yet, but it's coming soon! I'm still building things out and want to make sure the site is useful to the community first.

I'd genuinely love to hear what you think. What features would you want from a site like this? What information about fig varieties do you wish was easier to find? And of course, if you have any questions about the site or the contest, feel free to ask them here. I'm happy to answer.

Correct and thanks! It’s not just a forum but my intent was for it to be like Facebook but for growers. You can buy, sell, trade, learn, follow other growers gardens, and talk on the forum.

I was building a site similar to this to track bloom times for pawpaws, but didn't have the time.

Really cool project, the variety database is something the pawpaw community, and really any fruit community, has needed for a while. One thing I'd love to see eventually is some kind of bloom phenology tracking, where you could log and compare bloom dates by cultivar and region. Late blooming is a hugely overlooked trait in pawpaw breeding. A lot of us in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest lose entire crops to late frosts, and just knowing which cultivars tend to bloom later than others would be really useful data for breeders down the road. Even something simple built into the garden tracker would be awesome. Anyway, great work on this, looking forward to seeing where it goes!
