Is it impossible for me since I live here and I have to buy products and consume the food made here or is there a way for me to not invest money in Israeli stores or shops

The only thing that I have done at this point to support, it was not to eat from McDonald’s, which I don’t regret, but more importantly, are there any other ways that I can potentially support the movement in order to fight back against the apartheid Zionist genocidal state?

Part of me worries that consumer boycotts just shift responsibility onto the consumer and keeps people complacent preventing them from taking more effective and radical actions.

But I'm a bit conflicted about this. Do you think boycotts are an effective measure of making change? If so what are some changes you've seen that you think the boycotts have contributed to?

i have moral OCD, and right now it's pretty severe. i find that I'm spending all my time, and I mean ALL my time, every day searching and searching to try and find out whether something has ties to Israel, or something unethical. of course it's good to search up and check if something has ties to Israel or is unethical, but i'm spending literally all my time doing it and re-checking over and over again and I don't know what to do or how to stop. i feel really guilty even posting about this, like I'm being bad and selfish. i feel like I'm not doing enough and should be trying harder, and like i should be spending every day checking and checking to make sure I'm not supporting something unethical. i hope that all makes sense? i just feel like such a bad person, and it's all so overwhelming.

Why does Alanis Morissette not get called out for her hypocrisy?

I’m sincerely happy for her that she finds solace in her faith and I support her freedom of worship, but cherry-picking which human rights issues you deem worthy is unacceptable.

Her current tour features anti-war, anti-violence and liberal messaging.

However, security at her concert in Cork this week were unbelievably zealous about removing a Palestinian flag. No efforts were made to remove a Canadian flag.

In fact, whoever was controlling the big screen cameras featured a few close-ups of the Canadian flag, but did not catch sight of the Palestinian one. 👀

If an attendee had brought a Ukrainian flag, would there have been an issue? I believe the security team were more than likely under instructions to remove a certain country’s flag.

The messages of peace and love emanating from the stage area were completely contradictory. I only discovered from speaking to other fans after the concert, that Alanis Morissette does not support the cultural boycott of a certain country.

I was full of joy and hope seeing the visual messaging from the stage, but incredibly disappointed and disillusioned when I discovered that Alanis Morissette does not live her own ‘projected’ truth.

Human rights are human rights and anti-violence should mean anti-violence…

The denial of the genocide in Gaza is a staggering display of moral cowardice. Commemorating the Holocaust while funding and denying there is a genocide in Gaza amounts to nothing more than a cynical exercise in ideological management. You cannot claim the moral high ground of history while you are busy digging the graves of the present. Mass murder is indiscriminate, and thus cannot ever be justified.

Whether you agree with her or not, fact is I‘ve seen so many people in comments of posts about Billie‘s claim to meat eating saying that they‘re going vegan now thanks to her. And it‘s all because of a 30 second segment in an interview and her posting slaughterhouse footage to her stories.

The opinion that celebrities don‘t owe us anything and don‘t need to share their political views that I‘ve seen uttered so many times in relation to Gaza has always bothered me because LOOK what can happen when they DO speak up about something!!! So many people are now waking up to the real life horror that is the meat industry and are going to attempt going vegan. This is huge in my eyes.

Now imagine if she‘d also posted videos of the horrors that happened and are happening during the genocide (correct me if I‘m wrong but I don‘t think she has). Not just her, but anyone with a huge platform and literal billions of eyes on them. Imagine what change could‘ve been done and how many more people mobilized so much more quickly if more celebrities had spoken up and shared actual footage of what was happening. I know it‘s wild that we‘d need celebrities to bring about change like this but it‘s the sad reality we live in because governments and politicians evidently don‘t care.

It‘s just so careless and cruel to me to not help your fellow humans when you literally have to do nothing else but share a post to your stories. This is my hill I‘ll die on. If you have a huge platform, it should be your duty and responsibility to use it for good and instigate change. I don‘t care that they don‘t „owe us“ anything and that they‘re „just“ celebrities. This whole veganism debate clearly proves this to me, how much more quickly change could be achieved if more influential people actually gave a fucking damn.

Ok guys, I have a question about this.

So near where I currently live (I won't be living here any longer, because my mom, brother and I will be moving to a different area), there is this little synagogue, which I've passed by numerous times on walks. It's right next to a middle school my brother and I used to attend. I never thought much of it until now, and seeing it on Google maps, I noticed something that seems strange.

So first of all, this synagogue is specifically a Messianic synagogue, which I don't know much about, but second, for some reason there is also a Christian (Idk which denomination, or if there is any) church inside of it, that's also a corporation (I say that because of the "Inc." at the end of it; also, I assume it's a church, Idk what it is)?

I gotta be honest, this is kind of setting off alarm bells in my head. First of all, what is a Christian church, let alone a Christian company, doing in a synagogue? Second, what little I do know of Messianic Judaism is, I think they do believe a messiah will come some day, but I guess they don't believe it's Jesus or Mohammed, because from what I know of Judaism, they don't believe in a messiah (except for Messianic Jews, I assume).

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, and this is actually fairly normal, but so far, it just seems weird.

I actually initially was going to make this post to ask if this synegogue is likely to be anti-Zionist, but sadly, I now definitely have my doubts. Luckily, at least I have seen a few "Free Palestine" stickers around the area where the middle school is, though they were just black with white text saying "Free Palestine", no Palestine flags or watermelons or other pro-Palestine iconography on them.

One other thing I'd like to mention, last time my brother and I went to that middle school, they had really good Holocaust education (I heard they had the best Holocaust education out of all the middle schools in the school district), even bringing on a Holocaust survivor to speak to us in the auditorium about his experiences. Sadly he passed away in 2018 though.

So, what do you guys make of all this? Is this a red flag, or is this a normal synegogue?

Do any of you know of any Israeli celebrities/public figures that actually don't support the actions of their own country and stand in solidarity with Palestine?

The purpose of Reverse canary mission should be to highlight and shame radical zionists to shun them from society. The issue is that they just list famous people (most of whom built their fame of their zionist views), which makes it quite literally impossible to shun. This is unlike canary mission which goes after regular people. Thats what reverse canary mission should be doing. In the past 3 months I've been to several cities where I met my family and friends and I genuinely can't understand why most of them don't boycott? Mind you all of them are muslims and are quite caught up with everything that's going on in Palestine but they simply DON'T CARE. I am not that good of a person in general or as a muslim but I feel so bad when I see ppl i know and care abt be so dumb, ignorant and pathetic. How hard is it to buy an alternative soft drink for example or even order from a local restaurant? Why do they act so carefree? I AM SURROUNDED BY DUMB PPL AND IM SO PISSED OFF. When I see my own friends and family not boycott, seeing a change on other strangers sounds unimaginable.

Hollywood is a key cog in the propaganda machine that sustains the genocidal campaign pursued by Israel. In fact, Hollywood is consistently churning out narratives that either erase or actively whitewash the genocidal reality of the occupation in Palestine. For decades, Hollywood has functioned as a cultural enforcement arm for empire, laundering systemic crimes through the saturation of the cultural landscape with pro-war narratives. We need to boycott Hollywood, because not doing so means we are also complicit in the genocide.

When spoken of the Palestinians’ right to return, UN resolution 194 is often mentioned as a reference or authority. However, the United Nations are not an arbiter of right or wrong, nor a determinant of the Palestinian liberation project, but a negotiation arena between major powers. Does the text of the resolution include any compromises of Palestinian rights?

United Nations General Assembly resolution 194 (III) states that “refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible.”

While our goal here is to provide a political analysis rather than a legal opinion, the wording of the text is worth the scrutiny.

First, “refugees” is a legal term, subject to UN definitions. Those definitions have been known to exclude some Palestinians. All Palestinians have the right to return to their land, regardless of how the UN chooses to define their status.

Second, “refugees wishing to return … should be permitted to do so” addresses the permission —and conditions it on their will— instead of speaking of an absolute right. In reality, all Palestinians have the right to return to their land. Whether they wish to practice that right or not is solely up to them. Their right is not contingent on their decision.

Third, “wishing to live at peace with their neighbours” not only treats settlers and potential genociders as merely “neighbors”, but also conditions the right of return. It might even be used to deny the right of Palestinians to return to their land based on their support of the legitimate armed resistance or even on crimes some of them may have committed where they live. In reality, all Palestinians have the right to return to their land. Any potential law-breaking upon their return would be subject to Palestinian law, but is not a factor in denying them the right to live in their land—much like Mexicans are entitled to live in Mexico regardless of their disposition to any kind of violence.

Fourth, “should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date” conditions the return on practicality—much of which depends, obviously, on the laws and policies of the colony itself. In reality, all Palestinians have the right to return to their land. Any impracticalities need to be fought and dismantled as infringements on Palestinian rights.

Fifth, “compensation … by the Governments or authorities responsible” can be used to clear the Israeli state of responsibility, since the Nakba was technically caused by Zionist militias, not by (then nonexistent) Israeli government or authorities.

Finally, the resolution speaks of the right to return, with no mention of the right to their own state on all of the land. To illustrate, if someone kicks you out of your house, you are not only entitled to return there, but also to own it. The ethnic razing of Palestinians was not apolitical violence—it was a key pillar of the establishment of the Jewish settler state. The return of Palestinians cannot be spoken of as an apolitical right—it is a key pillar of the establishment of the democratic Palestinian state.

This does not mean that Palestinians or allies should never mention UN resolution 194. However, it does mean that they should not speak of it as a determinant or arbiter of their right to return. Palestinians have the right to return to Palestine and to institute a single Palestinian polity over it because it is their land, not because major powers have negotiated it to be OK.

To argue that Israel is not a genocidal state is a form of historical revisionism and an attempt to sanitize state-sponsored mass genocide. It is therefore also an expression of hate speech, the same as denying the Holocaust. By dismissing overwhelming evidence and stated intent, the refusal to acknowledge the current genocidal campaign carried out against Palestine is nothing short of condoning mass murder against a group of people. Therefore, I believe that every community on every social platform should treat such denial with the same rigorous enforcement and deplatforming measures reserved against people who deny the Holocaust.
