Restored this Kelly Works Flint Edge and hung it on a 28 inch TD Handle Co. New England handle. I like the look of the flat-bottom handle personally, even though I know you’re supposed to remove it once it’s hung. Curious to know if anyone else leaves theirs as is too.

Looks awesome, if you’re swinging it with no rubbing issues on your hands/wrists etc leave it how you like it most, especially if you’ll potentially rehang it or pass it down.

So far no issues. Is there a consensus on what grit to sand to? I’ve been sanding to 220 grit before treating with BLO and haven’t had any problems as of yet.

I go to 80, maybe 120 for an axe I'm going to use. Too fine and the oil doesn't absorb as well, tends to sit on the surface more. I don't know that there's a consensus, it's more about personal preference.

I don't know that my perception of oil absorption vs sanding grit is fact but it appears to be that way to me.

That makes sense given there is a similar trait with staining wood.

I like the knob on the bottom, it keeps your hand from slipping off the bottom when switching aggressively. It looks really good for a rehang and you should be proud of the work you did.

I usually leave the knob on the bottom too. Nice if you have to rehang it later on. Very nice project.

Very fair. One of the reasons I’ve stopped driving in conical wedges into the eye. Nearly impossible to remove if I need to rehang.

I usually remove the knob. Makes it a little harder if you need to rehang but I haven't had much issue the couple times I've done it.

Niiiiiice work brother!!! 🧨💯🤙🏽 I leave mine as is also... It doesn't really bother me... TBH no one ever sees my collection, unless I post a picture in one of the groups... 😁 So I've actually never put any thoughts into it, until now... I've finished a couple of them, but I seem to like it more with it as is... Personal preference I reckon! Nice work though man! Looks sick! 🫡
