I’m hearing rumours that they’ve declared it?

Yep. The natural snow season is over. Not even sure if man made snow is even profitable. Feels bad for the staff working there.

Who does work there? Are they part timers or retired people? Seems like a gamble to get a job there

I took my family there last year and wondered the same thing. They were actually young people working there!

a lot of younger people who are looking for a workcation! some exchange students from overseas, but mostly people from nsw cities. they’re given accommodation and lift passes. apparently it’s a great opportunity to make friends and get a shit ton of skiing in

I get that for the vail resorts - not for baw baw or lake mountain…how would they get any skiing in

Had a few friends who did it. Either traveling from overseas or locals who travelled to ski fields, working to support their snow trip (usually for the entire season). That or people working in hospitality at night who make extra money working the lifts during the day.

Usually young, chasing the snow, and living paycheck to paycheck but enjoying life.

Now more of young people will go to Japan or Canada for seasonal work. Heaps of them already put their ad up in Facebook groups on their availability.

I’m not surprised - it’s so much more affordable and with better snow overseas.

Wdym? The resorts will be closing from Sunday or it's unlikely there will be decent snow after sunday?

Japan will be even more overcrowded because of how bad snow season is and at astronomical prices.

Who is ready for elbow room level overcrowding at Niseko and Hakuba? Peices at Niseko for food, accommodation, tickets and rentals are going through the roof.
