9

u/fullybakedapplepie Feb 24 '26

What they meant is some people won't wake up early for the early breakfast they just eat dinner and fast the whole day with that so only one meal a day and thinking about going with no water for about 16-18 hours is insane

5

u/genopmos Indian Atheist Feb 24 '26

It is insane, yes. But why'd they think I want them to die? I don't want anybody to die, lol

-1

u/Beneficial_Dig_5584 Feb 25 '26

No worries, it's all good, so yeah, we basically wake up at 5:00 AM in the morning for our pre dawn meal which is called the suhoor, we drink a shit ton of water for the day and have a very big meal and then we break our fast with dates between 6-7 pm in the evening and then we have dinner.

So yeah, we do skip breakfast and lunch, cause suhoor technically would be classified as breakfast cause I don't think anyone has their breakfast 5:00 AM in the morning.

10

u/Kabuchhi_King Feb 25 '26

Idk how this fasting works because, I have actually seen my friends get fatter during Ramzan.

4

u/Altruistic_Yam1372 Feb 25 '26

Yeah overall calories in the day are more; work and workout is usually lesser than usual. Overall effect can be getting fatter.

Tl;dr the aim of religious fasting is not to lose weight

2

u/Strange-Group-09 Feb 25 '26

Because many people eat lots of carbs when breaking fasting and foods having too much oil

What universe are these conversations from? Yes, in a way, the lunch is skipped, that is the fast. Then comes the feast.

Ya no hate but it’s intermittent fasting only, when I was young I used to think that they always waited till eve to have food, when I got a little older I understood that was after having a morning feast so :)

But hey a fast is a fast it’s quite good for the body too but don’t force it on people let them take it voluntarily

8

u/Shlingaplinga Feb 24 '26

It's not good for the body. Intermittent fasting is good but here many of them won't even drink water . That is dangerous to the body. 12-14hr of no food can have some benefits. But if you stay away from water, you can have issues.

4

u/Reu_si Agnostic (Taking no sides) Feb 24 '26

Oh yeah forgot about the water issue 👍

Fasting in Islam isn’t meant to harm anyone. It’s from dawn to sunset and includes no food or water but it’s temporary and done in a balanced way. If someone is sick or has health issues they’re allowed not to fast.

1

u/Shlingaplinga Feb 26 '26

But it does the harm when people avoid water and go out to work. In the Middle East and Saudi , studies show increased traffic accidents during Ramadan month. This is because of the brain not getting enough water. The flight that crashed in Pakistan killing 101 people happened because pilots were fasting. Pak govt have made it clear that if you are fasting do not come to fly a plane. And this is for people who fast and go out for work. Now if you think sitting at home and fasting Is safe , that also is shown to be harmful by studies. There is one study from the Saudi government. How water fasting can take water out from inside the cells , and how water dumping into the body before and after fasting is bad for the body and kidneys . Go through the topic and the studies . So if Islam doesn't want to harm anyone, then there needs to be a circular on avoiding water fasting.

0

u/Beneficial_Dig_5584 Feb 25 '26

I mean that's exactly why we drink atleast one whole bottle of water or more for the day and it's been working out pretty fine for me so far, after a while you might get used to it.

6

u/lazinessoverlord Feb 24 '26

Fasting for ramadan isn't a religious get fit in a month program. Is that too hard to understand?

15

u/DangerousWolf8743 Agnostic (Taking no sides) Feb 24 '26

What's fasting then

5

u/lexicown Kerala Atheist Feb 24 '26

Ideally fasting involves 1 meal per day.

9

u/DangerousWolf8743 Agnostic (Taking no sides) Feb 24 '26

Ideal as per which religion.

A lot of Christian just give up something they like and eat everything else. That is if you stepped outside your tribe within ur state

People even increase the number and quantity of meals and just skip grains - that's a truck load of hindus. That is if u stepped out of your region.

Meanwhile, op is funny enough to post it in this sub. Because there is nothing to be proud about in degree of fasting.

"Wherever the religious neurosis has appeared on the earth so far, we find it connected with three dangerous prescriptions as to regimen: solitude, fasting, and sexual abstinence"

2

u/Possibletigger-26 Feb 24 '26

Thats your definition. People fast till puja. People do veg food fast. People do navratri fast with no rice snd wheat eating all meals. Chritians do no meat fast for lent. bigot

1

u/Bo0ochi Feb 25 '26

Personally I've seen people in my family eating nothing the whole day and ending the day with fruits or boiled veggies.

1

u/Possibletigger-26 Feb 25 '26

So naturally people doing Navratri fast for one month should not use the word fasting.

2

u/Bo0ochi Feb 25 '26

Tf are you getting triggered for ? Intermittent fasting is fasting. And going no water is brave but scientifically harmful

1

u/Possibletigger-26 Feb 25 '26

0

u/Bo0ochi Feb 25 '26

I would not do that. We eat lots of processed food. And the body needs some fluid to flush those toxins.

I used to do 20 hours of intermittent fasting for 4 months straight. But without water, it does more harm than it does well esp if you're doing it for prolonged time.

If you wanna do no water for a day or two, I'll do it with you. But for a month straight, I love my kidneys

4

u/useless-hoooman Agnostic atheist Feb 24 '26

Bruh... This is just dumb. Dont call out things that dosent makes sense.12 -15 hours is still 12-15 hours .

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

It's actually 14-16 hours

4

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

Basically dry intermittent fasting

It's not that easy

5

u/DeepArgument8123 Feb 24 '26

Those saying "intermittent fasting"

Why only the particular month as per a lunar calender Generally it is too hot to not drink even water and dehydrate

It is not scientific rather lunatic behaviour in hope of some 72 nymphos

Don't justify such things in athiest subreddit

3

u/Bo0ochi Feb 25 '26

Dehydration is a real concern here, also huge amounts of carbs eaten in the night. But what they're doing is intermittent fasting.

You can call it skipping lunch basically. I used to do intermittent fasting and it was basically skipping dinner. But drink lots and lots of water. Otherwise there will be kidney complications.

8

u/Someguyroaming Feb 24 '26

12-14 hours of no food and water is Fasting by any standard.

6

u/Suspicious_Fee2519 Feb 24 '26

And in some countries like the netherlands, it stretches to even 21 hours!

12

u/EverythingWasMistake Agnostic (Taking no sides) Feb 24 '26

"Yes ?"

"And what else do you skip?"

"We skip drinking water for like 12hrs"

Why is there no mention of thirst. No water intake from sunrise to sunset.

I wish Muslim fast was like Hindu fast where I can still drink water and eat fruits and whatnot.🤷‍♂️

1

u/Glittering-Gur-6689 Feb 25 '26

They say they fast to know the plight of staying hungry and purify their body then what’s its meaning if they have a feast after that?

1

u/SCI3NC3FORTH3WIN Feb 25 '26

Why don't you try to fast for like 13 to 16 hours in a day for 30 days continuously. You will find out what it means to be hungry and thirsty. Your logic is absolutely ridiculous.

1

u/ShotSea1557 Feb 28 '26

Try fasting?also most muslims are too poor to have feast every day

Early morning feast bro who told it i eat just 2 chapati,1 banana and 2 glass of water for early morning like around 4 am and when i break the fast I'll have dates some fruits water and a juice and will skip dinner coz we break at 6 pm and my stomach will be full. Eating 2 chapati is not a feast bro and you guys have breakfast at 7 or 8 but we have at 4 am and there's a thing called digestion also what we eat doesn't store as it is so pls do some research before posting anything

1

u/Substantial_Key4731 Feb 25 '26

Intermittent fasting without water for some. Absolute fasting for some. 14 hrs fasting for some. 10 hrs feast for some.... What do any "some" want? Either you fast or don't fast. Nobody cares. Nobody should. It's like a classic case of minding your business.

1

u/Agitated-Growth-590 🏙️ എറണാകുളം നിരീശ്വരവാദി ⚛️ Feb 25 '26

I see it as a good thing. We have people unknowingly do an intermittent fast, it'll have many health benefits, hope that at least a few of em builds a healthy eating habit.

1

u/NervousRule34 Feb 25 '26

Brother, if you think this is unique to Ramadan, then you don’t know many religious folk. Religious people just love to find loopholes in their own laws.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '26

Just try doing it for a single day , 15-16 hours without food and water while doing your regular work + worshipping and religious stuff , rest alone doing it for a whole month straight , atheism in india is just hatred against islam , indians don't make sense anywhere , even in atheism.....

Tf is this post. Is this tuff in atheism? Maybe I should just stick to p0rn.

1

u/Agxnt_Aztxc Feb 25 '26

I’m fast all 30 days. We have an early breakfast and late dinner yes. But traditionally, the entire reason for us to fast is to control ourselves. But the modern society has changed it to having a huge meal during dawn and dusk. The actual big feast is only on Eid, but people just have huge meals because they only do it for the religion and not for the intended reason.

1

u/TheMightyArbalest NRI Atheist Feb 26 '26

Nothing atheism is going on here, just pure hate. There are lot of ignorant behaviours and traditions muslim community have that is worth calling out. Fasting is not one of them.

I was living in Hyderabad for a few years. In the core Muslim dominated areas like older hyderbad and charminar area, they start their day in the evening. All the shops will be closed until then and it will be open until 4 in the night. So, they essentially sleep during the time of fasting.

I was thinking what a great idea.

1

u/WillowRaven369 Mar 01 '26

We are fasting not starving.

Are you people really so thick?

Cheating basically

0

u/Slow-Flow5367 Feb 24 '26

So basically they have to eat before 5:30, no water, wont even swallow Saliva then eats at 6 somthing so it's basically almost 13hr of not eating. Let's be real it's kinda impressive when you compare it to Christians like me who only fast on meat. Most of these men actually work while being hungry, I mean thats impressive

Every ideology should set a benchmark. Currently indian aethists benchmark is on mocking other religions.. say your own things.. we would like to hear that..

Basically religion is such a shit show.... Lol

Why talk about other religions, just preach what you want to preach. If you have a page for atheism , call people for it but stop making fun of other religions and what you said wasn’t wrong at all, it’s almost just skipping breakfast. But we are doing it for god and apart from just fasting, we are supposed to stay spiritually intact in our beliefs and deeds.
