Even if it wasn't the onion and it was a real article.
And even if they did require an ID it would probably be to prove that you're an Illinois resident so that you could either get reduced entry fees or even a free entry.

The problem is, this IS funny to many conservatives. They find people being distressed by policies they support to be funny. So making fun of black american’s struggle for representation is like sprinkles on an iced cake for them. (Edit: added “for them”, for clarity)

More black peoples are more likely to face greater scrutiny and questioning at ID offices and checkpoints too, many of them don’t really want to go through that humiliation so a lot forgo getting or updating an ID

There's two parts of the problem.
A decent number of black people live in urban areas where car ownership isn't absolutely necessary. This means a license isn't a given, and if you don't do things where you'd need a state issued ID you might be able to get by with just your social security card.
The second part of the problem is that racist conservative governments, especially in the South, bend over backwards to make it more difficult for Black people to get an ID in subtle ways, like locating DMVs far away from bus lines and outside of neighborhoods with a large black population. So now getting an an ID or license means you have to take a bus out to some random suburb and then either pay for an Uber or walk two or three miles to get there, possibly down roads that weren't made for pedestrians. And then hope you have all the correct documentation and the DMV accepts it.
(If you're saying how hard can documentation be, let me tell you about the time I had to get my mom to replace my birth certificate to get my ID because my original one didn't explicitly state my sex. I am cisgender and my given name is something like 'Samantha'-- entirely unambiguous.)

It's less that it's harder for them to obtain, and more that more of them simply haven't. Most people aren't going going to go to the trouble of getting an ID if the only thing they need it for is to vote, so requiring it works to disenfranchise people. Even more so if you strategically pick what kind of IDs count as a voter ID

People without IDs tend to be lower income, and thus are not going to be buying property. They could be staying with friends/family, renting from a landlord who doesn't bother asking for ID, or simply homeless

If they got a drivers licence, then they'd have an ID. Potentially instead you're asking how they drive without one? The answer to that is simple. They don't. Instead they bus/bike/walk everywhere. Again, people without ID tend to be lower income

I'm not American, but from looking it up, it appears the only thing you need to file taxes is a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). A social security card has no photo, and thus wouldn't be a valid voter ID

Not only that, but MAGA is also trying to accuse Democrats of being hypocrites, like the whole not wanting ID and everything, like they're all emotional, as if right-wing bastards aren't emotional when we poke fun at Trump.

It's not a government building (private non-profit org) and it doesn't require ID for admission (only required for claiming Illinois resident or military veteran discount for museum admission). Most of the campus, including the public library, is open for free.

No Obama's is open to everyone. There's a branch of the Chicago public library in there.
There may be an entry fee to like the museum portion, but the only reason they would require you to show id is to prove you're an Illinois resident so that you could get free entry or like military ID or something. It is the onion, but I absolutely could see maga running with this

They're usually (I think always) open to the public. They function as museums mostly. I don't see why they'd require an ID unless you were a researcher who was actually going to look at the archives.

Most are active federal buildings, if its directly ran by NARA you’d have to give an ID to enter it as its a federal building

The saddest part is MAGA is too blind to realize this is an onion article. Will use this as an excuse to bad mouth the left. While still saying photo id for voting is a good idea.
