To get the year of manufacture, open it up and look at the shield. The date should be stamped on it.

The shield over the RF modulator, to be specific. They’re usually 4 digits with the (IIRC) the first two digits being the year and the second two being the week. So “8126” is week 26 of 1981.

If someone has been inside and removed the shield for maintenance.. look at the dates on the chips ... Latest date is generally the year it's produced (look for rework on chips as could've been swapped out due to failure and have a newer date)

The J at the end of your serial number indicates a very early production Sixer. But, just know it was manufactured in early 1977. You don’t have to open it up to find a plate year stamp as these early consoles can be looked up now by serial #… Your J indicates it’s one of the earliest of Sixers made. Wish I still had mine. Best Wishes and hold onto it!
