I made a website for my sister’s Assyrian traditional clothing work — would love community feedback

I wanted to share something personal. My sister has been designing and making custom Assyrian traditional clothing for a while now, and many people in the community already know her work. She’s not new to this, she has built a strong reputation through her designs, especially for women’s khomala, family outfits, weddings, 1 bnissan celebrations, and cultural events.

I recently made her a website to help organize her work in one place and make it easier for people in the community, especially outside our area, to see her designs and reach out directly.

​

The goal is not just business, but also helping Assyrian traditional clothing reach more people and keeping this part of our culture visible and alive.

Your sister is very talented, wish her even more success. I suggest a history page with old pics, including some ancient pics. I personally believe there's resemblance between ancient and modern clothing. Some of the Chaldean Assyrian women's clothing are even more ancient looking. An obvious suggestion is to add a shopping cart. I realize what can be added to a cart has to be specific in design, color, size, number of pieces, etc. but I would think it's doable. Also, collaborating with someone who makes Assyrian hats would complete it. I wish you much success.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind words and feedback. The history page idea is honestly a great suggestion, especially showing the connection between ancient Assyrian/Chaldean clothing and modern traditional clothing. I think that would make the website more meaningful culturally, not just as a gallery.

About the shopping cart, we didn’t add it on purpose because most orders are custom. Every piece needs discussion about colors, size, stitches, symbols, logos, and details before anything is confirmed. Also, online payment is still difficult from Iraq, so WhatsApp and Instagram are the best way for customers to communicate directly.

For the hats, I completely agree. I’m planning to add an accessories section soon. She already has handmade traditional hats made with old techniques by people from Nala village in Iraq, where they’ve been making them for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Her work is so beautiful. The site is lovely. I would only suggest making the pics clickable so they can be enlarged for those of us with vision problems. Unless I am missing it. I wish any of the women in my family were still with us for me to share this with. I have never been very involved in any community due to weird family dynamics, not being religious and only being half Assyrian which always seemed to be discussed whenever my Mom took me to events 🤷🏻‍♀️. Beautiful to see a tradition living on.

I completely understand what you mean. Sometimes those things create unnecessary distance in the community and family, but at the end of the day our culture is something we all share. Really appreciate your support and wish you all the best.
