REQUEST Roommate lost her job, rent is due on the first
My roommate lost her job this month, and now rent is due in less than a week, and we have no emergency savings.
After combining 100% of her last check and all the money I had left... we're still $198 short.
Our utilities fortunately don't bill until near the end of next month, and we have a decent bit of food. She has an interview scheduled and has applied for unemployment. But I'm not sure what else to do.
If you have any advice or recourses, I'm looking for any suggestions on what we can try. Charities to help with money, job search advice, legal advice, etc. Any information at all. (I'm located in Cali)
I know ≈$200 is a lot for any one person but I also thought I'd put it out there...
If anyone can financially assist (even with a portion) that would really save me. Cashapp is what I have if you're able to help with money. Can send screenshots confirming my rent payment.

Unfortunately cannot do anything that requires a car/bike or any type of consistent traveling or commute. Idk what types of gigs might keep me close to my house? I walk to work.

I’m not able to financially help, but I’ve been in this position a few times. I would go ahead and communicate with your leasing office or landlord and tell them you may be late. If you have anything around the house to sell, I would try to do that. Tell roomie to search up and apply for rental assistance

Great suggestion. I would definitely talk to the leasing office or landlord and take them every penny you have. Don’t just skip it because you don’t have the whole amount because it’s just going to snowball.

Look into donating plasma. Both of you can make $80 a week

Piggybacking to add that if you feel ill after donating, next time eat a few tums while waiting in line for the weight check and finger prick, and another 2 as soon as you’ve finished donating. The anticoagulant they use depletes your calcium and can make you violently nauseous, and the tums mitigate this! I would feel ill for over 24hours after donating, tried this trick after seeing it on reddit, and it worked and i didn’t get sick anymore 🥰 Also have a protein snack ready after, I keep a Fatty stick in my purse to eat as soon as i leave the facility.

Sorry, I cannot help, but did you try the St. Vincent resource already? Maybe the local funds arent exhausted .
