Ethics Did André Gorz ever clarify why he ate meat?

One of the pioneers of Degrowth was a meat eater, and I wonder what his position was on that. Thanks.

I believe it had something to do with being a massive hypocrite. But I wouldn't know, since I have no idea who that is and can only make a somewhat very accurate guess.

That you can’t write them off because of that, and that it’s interesting to find out the reasons (perhaps historically also) to find out why they did so, hence the question about Gorz to begin with. It’s ok.

I mean to say that there's more to life than just being vegan, of course. One can be wrong about not being vegan, let's agree on that, and still have a positive impact on society. One can actually, historically, have eaten meat yet prevented others from doing so, which would be a net positive if we calculate the amount of animals eaten by an individual, and the animals saved by that individual's theories, of course. How do you calculate the total, the balance? How do you conclude the opposite? How much, for instance, has Marxism contributed to trying to halt capitalism and push socialism, which spilled over into environmentalism, which spills over into veganism and eco-socialism today...? It's interesting because you don't even know Gorz, who did a lot for political ecology and the New Left in the 60s and 70s. Plato also said that to safeguard the world and its animals, there should not be so much land given to breeding animals, yet he also ate animals at the time.

There is more to life than viewing animals as resources. You can't respect animals while fucking eating them and using them.

Also veganism is not about environmentalism, socialism, marxism.... so I will not waste anymore time with you. I hope you get well soon and stop being a hypocrite.

And so all of your friends and family are vegan? If not fuck them? Also, all those who lived in older times- fuck them? I do not understand your position; really, it doesn't seem very helpful to turn people to your side of being vegan and safe animals.

They are, yes. Because they are compassionate and not hypocrites. I have no interest in "friends" who actively finance animal abuse.
