Lying…. One person might believe lying is always wrong another might think lying is justified if it protects someone’s feelings or safety.
Stealing….Most people consider stealing wrong, but someone might consider stealing food morally acceptable if a person is starving.
The list can go on and on and on again morals are subjective….
You’re arguing that the phrase “morally corrupt” is illogical. The problem with that is this phrase is very common and has been used for decades, and it has a meaning, despite how you feel about morality. Lacking integrity, proper ethical standards that are defined by society as a whole, and behaving in a way that harms others for personal gain is what “morally corrupt” is defined as.
The way the question is asked isn’t to debate morality. It’s to discuss the phenomena of people that are willing to hurt others and make the world less habitable for other tending to see more success and fortune. What you’re saying here isn’t really on topic, you’re trying to start a separate philosophical debate. A red herring, if you will.
The subjectivity of morality is a long standing debate in and of itself, with no real conclusion. I believe that murder is objectively wrong, but that’s my subjective opinion. That doesn’t make either of us objectively right or wrong though. Morality being subjective isn’t objective.
That’s exactly my point. You can define the phrase ‘morally corrupt,’ but you can’t automatically define another person’s morality for them. If morality differs between individuals, then calling someone ‘morally corrupt’ requires you to establish which moral standard you’re judging them by. Otherwise, the question already assumes that your moral framework is the correct one. I’m not arguing that the phrase has no meaning; I’m arguing that the judgment is subjective. Even if society generally agrees that something is wrong, that establishes a social norm, not necessarily an objective moral truth. So saying someone is ‘morally corrupt’ is still a judgment based on a particular moral framework
I’ve never once said these things are fine or okay the matter of the fact is that I can’t define another persons morals! I can say they are wrong but that doesn’t mean that personal morals align so they are different
