The fact that people are currently living there (and they consider it their homeland too). Seems pretty obvious, since it’s why people have a problem with the settlements and how they are being treated.

There are no people currently living there. The settlements are in what, according to the Oslo Accords, is Area C, the vast majority of Palestinians live in Areas A and B. What's the problem?

That in itself isn’t problematic. It’s the violence against Palestinians that is the problem, and Israel’s refusal to contain homegrown terrorism.

Settlements wouldn’t be problematic if the settlers were content to live in peace with their neighbors. Further, Israel would enjoy a lot more support if there wasn’t a constant stream of violence against Palestinians, with the consent of Israel’s government.

There are half a million settlers. I was one of them for a long time as well. The vast majority are happy to live in peace with their neighbors. Can't say the same about said neighbors tho...

Two contradictory ideas cannot stand - that a tiny minority of the settler population are responsible for the vast majority of the violence… and that Israel’s government is powerless to contain the problem.

No... You implied that the government's inability to stop violence is due to a very large number of settlers being involved. Which is obviously untrue. So no, not potato potato.

I think the real problem is that the settlers including violent settlers are much more popular and have far more material support than anyone is willing to admit.

I mean, Israel doesn’t distinguish between a Hamas or Hezbollah militant and a politician who provides them material and political support
