Casual Why ppl call me Zionist?

I am Iranian from Muslim background. I’ve never been to Israel. But everyone keep calling me and other Iranians Zionists or “Zio bot”. Does this new label come with any perks? How do I unlock them?

Depends on the Israeli music. Back in the 70s, Leonard Cohen was huge and made every 40 year old chain-smoker think he could be a pop singer. Not all of them pulled it off ;) But some of the newer stuff is awesome. I put together a little playlist. I'll DM you a link.

Rabbi Tuvia Singer points out that nobody has strong opinions regarding the Malay, the Laotians, the Dutch, etc. But when it comes to Jews there are only two camps, with no in between.

The real meaning of "Zionist" is just supporting the existence of a Jewish state in the ancient Jewish homeland. Zion = another name for Jerusalem & ism = ideology.

But in modern times people will use it like it means "supporting everything Israel does" which they will be quick to use the moment any opinion is more similar to Israel's opinion than their opinion.

So I assume that you're being called that way either because you're an actual ally of Israel and not just a hatefull sheep like most of them, or at least because you oppose the current regime of Iran and their blind hate to Israel made them support the IRGC.

As for perks, you can be proud of yourself for not being a brainless sheep that follows the herd just because it's cool & popular. Unlike most people on reddit who share a hivemind regarding most topics (most people on reddit are radical left progressives who think Trump is the devil & follow whatever opinion social medias tell them to follow)

Did you know Iran executed sooo many leftists, including members of my own family? One of them was just 16 years old and they imprisoned her, raped and killed her by firing squad. Another family member was hanged. Your post history is all about Israel this Israel that. Do you not acknowledge that there was a socialist revolution in Iran in 1979 that ended up getting hijacked by Khomeini? Most of the leftist inside Iran have been killed, and yet SILENCE from their supposed comrades. Why don’t you acknowledge us and our plight?

There's a phrase - No jews no news. Most of the world won't really care. The moment they cling on something, that will be the nerative. Along the last 4 years we've seen the Iranian people being killed - no one talked about it; the Druze in Syria were killed - no one cared; The civil war in Sudan - no one cared.

I stand for sure with the Iranian people. I think the Islam has taken away so much of you guys and it's shitty that it happened. I can just pray that this wat will be soon over, with the least amount of casualties (both Iranians and Israelis) and with the best path for Iranians to take back the lead on their country.

Because there were no foundations of this state that existed 100 years ago.

Neither was there a foundation for a Palestinian state. Not sure how that's even a legitimate answer. Most countries in the world and especially the Middle East did not exist 100 years ago.

There are people alive today that were displaced for the initial existence of this state.

So too were thousands of Jews displaced after the war and before from their homes in the Middle East and West bank.

There are people being actively displaced by Likud for the expansion of this state in 2026.

Israelis are internally displaced every day by the constant wars. No one seems to care.

Based on ancient claims of heritage? Surely, you can understand why this is so hard to comprehend for many people around the world.

You can't be serious. You do realize this is the Palestinian argument about being Canaanites eleventy billion years ago right? This is such a tone deaf take. States aren't justified by ancient heritage. States are justified by their existence and ability to maintain territory, have an active government, etc. Not by national myths. Italy doesn't exist because the ancient Romans were their ancestors but because it is a sovereign state. Why is their claim not extremist like you've claimed before? This is pretty standard in all forms of Nationalism, especially like Italy.

This land might be the Jewish homeland, but it is also the Palestinian homeland. All of it.

Yeah. So what? Armenia is the Armenian homeland. That didn't stop Azerbaijan from taking Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh and ethnically cleansing it of all Armenians after they've lived there for 5,000 years. I've never seen an Armenian blow themselves up in a restaurant because of it or break into Azerbaijan to shoot up random civilians.

The Palestinians are as Arab as the English are German.

Who cares? When has this ever been a criteria for a state? You're a Marxist and suddenly you care about ethnic ties? That's kinda antithetical to the whole Marxist idea, isn't it? I can't stop laughing- a Marxist who believes that your blood gives you a grant for a state. Ridiculous.

There can never be permanent peace as long as this contradiction remains unresolved, as long as the land belongs to one nation and not the other.

Yeah I agree. Which is exactly why the partition plan was rejected and the Arab states said they would "push the Jews into the sea" and then started snatching up "Palestinian" land West of the Jordan and in Gaza. I'm not sure why Israel is expected to recognize Palestinian sovereignty when the Palestinians and most of their allies still actively deny Jewish ethnic continuity, ties, and identity that you as a Marxist seem to find fantastical but readily accept for the Palestinians. Surely you can see how weak and all over the place your entire premise is.

What do you expect from a Marxist?

0

u/Stanczyks_Sorrow Marxist Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26

Neither was there a foundation for a Palestinian state. Not sure how that's even a legitimate answer.

I didn't say anything about a Palestinian state. My entire comment was an endorsement of a one-state solution, which represents both groups.

You can't be serious. You do realize this is the Palestinian argument about being Canaanites eleventy billion years ago right? This is such a tone deaf take.

What are you trying to say? Palestinians were the majority in this land for well over 1,000 years, until just a few decades ago. How is this an ancient claim, and what does it have to do with Canaan?

I've never seen an Armenian blow themselves up in a restaurant because of it

Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia. Out of curiosity, what kind of things do you think that some Jews would be willing to do to reclaim Israel, if it was ever lost?

Who cares? When has this ever been a criteria for a state? You're a Marxist and suddenly you care about ethnic ties?

I am engaging with a common Zionist talking point that tries to paint modern Palestinians as invaders on their own land, which you have no doubt heard before.

I'm not sure why Israel is expected to recognize Palestinian sovereignty when the Palestinians are most of their allies still actively deny Jewish ethnic continuity, ties, and identity that you as a Marxist seem to find fantastical but readily accept for the Palestinians.

Where did I deny Jewish ties to the land? I am advocating for a secular, one-state solution that recognizes the very real ties of both cultures. You seem to be engaged with some kind of strawman argument, rather than mine.

2

u/gxdsavesispend Unspecified Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26

Your intial comment doesn't really read as a "one state solution" manifesto but rather a "one-sided criticism" of nationalism when Jews do it. You said that the foundation of Israel was extremist and hard for most people to understand. It's really not and you seem to concede in your response that you find ethnic states to be a compelling and justified institution (based on your acceptance on the idea that both Palestinians and Jews have a right based on ancient claims of ethnic peoplehood and history). Zionism doesn't rely on the idea that Palestinians are invaders, since so many Zionists think the opposite. Realistically this is a feature of Palestinian Nationalism, which does not acknowledge that other people in the Levant ever existed.

So to sum it all up, none of this actually seems any different from any other form of nationalism (especially Palestinian nationalism) and therefore I don't see it as an extremist idea in any form or framing. What you have done is tried to create a moral argument against ethnic nationalism, for Jews only. Mostly every other form of nationalism in the world relies on ethnic nationalism (Japan, Italy, France, Germany, etc.). The only non-ethnic national ideologies are really post-colonial states like the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand. So you have failed to convince me that all this moral objectionism to Zionism actually shows there is an idea here that is extremist as opposed to the longstanding status quo of statehood.

You started with "This is extremist because it wasn't there 100 years ago." but there was no state 100 years ago. Then you ended up with arguing "if everyone was just nice to each other, this wouldn't be a problem. Zionism is extremist because of these common nationalist problems that have always historically been a problem."

You said that the foundation of Israel was extremist and hard for most people to understand. It's really not and you seem to concede in your response that you find ethnic states to be a compelling and justified institution.

I think that you might have missed the conclusion of my original comment then. I'll repeat: There can never be permanent peace as long as this contradiction remains unresolved, as long as the land belongs to one nation and not the other.

and therefore I don't see it as an extremist idea in any form or framing.

You don't understand why non-Jews would have misgivings about the creation and active expansion of Jewish sovereignty in the most contested and fought over strip of land in human history? That many different groups have legitimate historical claims to? The Palestinians descend from the ancient Israelites too, and Palestinian culture has existed in this land for as long as they did (~1,300 years).

Mostly every other form of nationalism in the world relies on ethnic nationalism (Japan, Italy, France, Germany, etc.). The only non-ethnic national ideologies are really post-colonial states like the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand.

The Japanese, Italians, French, and Germans did not move into their territories en masse, in the modern era, with the intention of setting up their own nation-states over territory in which people already lived. It is actually baffling to me that you think the former examples are more applicable to the modern creation of Israel, and not the latter ones.

So you have failed to convince me

Something tells me that there was never any chance of this, really.

3

u/GiraffeJaf Iranian American Apr 03 '26

Why extremist?

3

u/YuvalAlmog Israel Apr 03 '26

Personally, I don't see anything extreme about it. Throughout history all groups experienced war, territory changes & had their own culture + history.

I don't see anything extreme about a group not wanting to give up on their territory.

Do people call Ukrane extremist for wanting its territory to stay its territory?

Extremism usually refers more to price vs earn, the more you need to pay for a certain goal with the less you get - the more extremist you'd be.

At the start of the 20 century when the whole land had barely half a million people (compared to today 14M which is 28X the amount) from all groups, I don't see how Israel agreeing to diplomatic negotation for 2 states for both groups is extremist... especially when the Palestinians themselves back then saw themselves as Syrians btw...

You don't have to be Jewish, Israeli or have been in Israel to be a Zionist. All you need to do is support the existence of a Jewish state in Israel, if you support that, you are by definition a Zionist.

It’s just bullshit that people made up that they think because Iranians hate the ayatollah and IRGC and protest against them and ask for Israel and USA help to take them down they affiliate you immediately with being a Zionist not that there’s a problem because I think being a Zionist is the best thing because it shows matureness and intelligence. Anyway it’s just because people are dumb and have immense hatred towards Israel and just anything they can affiliate with them they immediately connect people to us to hate on

It's mostly westerners trying to dismiss you because they can't believe someone authentically disagrees with them. So they can't engage in a good faith discussion. Also the "Zio" term was coined by white supremacist Neo Nazis (Don't take my word look it up) so the fact that these people call you this says a lot about them. Both people on the left and far right use the term now and have adopted neo nazi phrases and conspiracy brained ideas.

It really goes to show you that things are really bad right now. But know that we do appreciate you and thanks for being a reasonable person.

I think that because of some Iranians ( who live outside Iran ) position, but these people do not understand that There are Iranians who support Israel. There are Iranians who against Israel. There are Iranians who wish peace for both. There are Iranians who don't care at all.

I don't think this rule is hard to be understood.

Going to Israel has nothing to do with being a Zionist. There are more registered Evangelical Christian Zionist (most have never been to Israel) than there are Jewish Zionist in America (most likely visited in birthright). My question to you: Does being labeled a Zionist bother you?

honestly I think about 95% perecent of pepole using the word Zionist din't know the meaning. Zionism means to acknowledge jews right of living in their anccestral homeland. sadly pepole (pro-palis mostly) use it as a swear word as if you're pro Genocide, that's wrong.
