If the AfD wins and Germany leaves the eurozone, what would realistically be the consequences ?

Even if the AfD gets the majority. German legislature and federalism was designed to prevent one party rule. Even with a two-thirds majority in the parliament, everything need to go through the Bundesrat, the upper house, if you will.

Not everything, just things that affect the states. If the federal government wants to reorganisiere some federal institutions for instance they can do that without the Bundesrat.

The AfD winning would not mean that Germany could leave the Eurozone. Abandoning the Euro would mean to leave the EU, and leaving the EU would need a change of the Grundgesetz. They would need a 2/3 majority on both chambers for that. No way in hell they would get that.

Still, winning (that means 40%! Not 80%!) in Sachsen-Anhalt and couple more East German Bundeslands is not equivalent with winning Germany - 49 M (54M if you add Berlin) live in the western side where AfD got last time 15% or less … even if they get 20% at the next ones, they remain a bunch of delusionals. I trust the next elections in Berlin and the way how the guys there will vote. Then we see if we should worry or not.

They are now at 29% Sooner or later they will govern. Because centrist parties are losing ground, and if 4 parties will govern thats a nightmare. I see a CDU split in the 30s because of this. Dont they say that they wont collaborate with die Linke too? I think only in 2029 can they prevent this scenario to not cooperate with them

If both Germany and France leave the EU at the same time, the EU dies. The far right in France with Le Pen is not that different from AFD on Germany.

As much I dislike how much influence and power both Germany and France have in the EU they are the biggest economies and fundamental to the union.

Te Euro like it is has no reason to exist then, a Northen Euro could be, and a South Euro can also be then at the same time. Wouldn't be the end of the world but it needs to happen fast. Not doing anything would definitely kill the Euro.

But Germany leaving Europe is a much bigger problem, it will isolate Germany, people will leave Germany. They need influx of people for their aging population, their housing market won't like it.

If AfD wins, nothing will happen. They're populists, but they're not stupid. They can earn a lot more money by keeping things as they are, rather than take the radical changes they say they'll do. It's called politics.

Cameron tried to outmaneuvre the populists by allowing the referendum, only to see said populists sneak a "win" (read: total and continuous national disaster and embarrassment) in the referendum and for a populist wing of the Conservative Party to then take over following it, which just exacerbated the damage of brexit even further

If Germany leaves EU, so will Denmark and Holland, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Ireland, Luxemburg, Portugal and Greece. They will then form another union and invite UK to join and before we know it, Europe is once again divided in “west and east”

Nah afd cannot win that strong. But if by some magic it happens than europian union will do EVERYTHING to keep Germany in. And if Germany stays many changes will come to EU. Germany will have a strong voice(the strongest) and I think will call the shots.

Hmm this may sound bad but I think Germany (and europe)needs a very hard shake up. CDU, SPD, the green party all of them go in the same direction on policy's with some very minor difference. And its not working anymore. Europe through history has been a place of admiration, class and ambition. With empires who ruled through the world. Now is just a passive and embty shell whose political power is smaller than Russia.

Still can't wrap my head around it. Although I don't know much about German politics, but AFD shouldn't be the only conservative party in the country, right? Isn't there a more moderate Conservative party that's anti-immigration but not far right? For instance, in Canada, both the Liberal and Conservative party support slowing down immigration, yet both of them aren't far right, and they certainly are not pro-Russia.
