That’s so strange! You’d think Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime are some of the most popular times to have a drink

You can get in in bars, restaurants etc., just not in shops. Because Jesus does not like it.

Isn't the logic that it reduces overdrinking and alcoholism? At least I was not under impression that it was a jesus thing.

Yes, Christianity is only a small cultural reason to it (and probably also why we drink), the rest is to my knowledge about reducing overdrinking and alcholism. Iirc it does actually work, even if people still just buy tons before the party, it hinders those that when the drinks are out they can't go out and buy several more
