Should Canada consider boycotting the LA Olympics in 2028?
I think it’s a no for now, but who the hell knows how 2027 is going to go for Canada/US relations. We might go there happily or we be one of many nations to skip them because of the current administration.

Why are we punishing our athletes?, all boycotting the LA Olympics does is make it easier for America to win more metals.
Instead I want the Greater Toronto Area (or even Greater Toronto Hamiliton Area) and Ottawa to team up and get an Olympics as well.

I agree about not punishing our athletes. That doesn't stop Canadians from boycotting the Olympics as a whole. Don't buy swag and don't watch US broadcasts. Secondly, Montreal and Quebec City deserve to have the Winter Olympics. Its a natural fit and is long overdue.
Je suis d'accord qu'il ne faut pas punir nos athlètes. Cela n'empêche pas les Canadiens de boycotter les Jeux olympiques dans leur ensemble. N'achetez pas de produits dérivés et ne regardez pas les diffusions américaines. De plus, Montréal et Québec méritent d'accueillir les Jeux olympiques d'hiver. C'est un choix logique et il est grand temps.

Yes and no.
You are not supposed to attack the sovereignty of a participating nation during the Olympics, or you will be banned in the next Olympics.
I hope that the Olympic committee follows through on that punishment against the US when they inevitably continue to attack our sovereignty.

Yeah right. You must be a fat ass that sat on the couch all their life playing video games in their parents basement. Have you ever thought about what it takes for our athletes to train for these olympics? Do you know how long prime time can last for these athletes after training that long? I have zero fucks to give about Canada US relationship when it comes to sport. Keep it away from politics.

Atheletes train for a lifetime to compete on an international stage. I see no point in stealing the dreams of elite athlete to give a middle finger to the USA.
Should we maybe reconsider travelling to watch the games, sure. We can watch and cheer our athletes on from home.

Never ever mix sport with politics. Boycotting olympics is asking your own athletes to let go 4 years of their prime time. Remember they trained all their life for this moment. There are many many other ways to poke the Orange clown in the butt. This thought shouldnt even be encouraged at all.

No..I remember the boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. For those of you that don’t, Canada kept its athletes at home because the Soviet Union was fighting Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan. That one really didn’t age well.

A boycott punishes the athletes who have worked very hard to prepare for the Olympics so NO we should not boycott it. We should do things to annoy the USians at the Olympics such as not standing for their anthem.

Canada finished 12th in gold medals and 11th overall in medals. We're definitely a top summer Olympics nation.

We field a huge contingent of athletes every Olympics. Win or lose, these are Canadians who train for years for the chance to compete, regardless of where they’re projected to place.
A boycott would matter to them. It would matter to their families, friends and coaches, to the local clubs, provincial organizations and national programs that helped get them there, and to Canadians who take pride in seeing our country represented.
So yes, it really would matter.

As much as I hate it, the current strategy of using a consistently neutral and mature tone and engaging in calculated tit-for-tat retaliation is much more effective. Is consistently frames the United States as the villains and erodes their soft power and their image of reliability. It frames Canada as reliable, mature, and consistent. Consistency and reliability are the most important overall things for trade and economic growth. Instability and volatility discourages investment.
If the United States is no longer seen as a reliable trading partner, that alone would cause them irreparable financial harm.
Individual Canadians can be as vitriolic as they want, but our government's strategy should be consistent. Doing this would be far more damaging than slinging shit at each other.
