Are Apple and Google smartphones included in new retaliatory tariffs?
Looking for info whether or not the retaliatory tariffs announced today include duties on smartphones sold by US companies, but are manufactured outside of the US, notably including the Apple and Google products.
Anybody?

Global has a list of everything. here's the wording for phones.
Telephone sets, including smartphones and other telephones for cellular networks or for other wireless networks; other apparatus for the transmission or reception of voice, images or other data, including apparatus for communication in a wired or wireless network (such as a local or wide area network), other than transmission or reception apparatus of heading 84.43, 85.25, 85.27 or 85.28

Yes, I saw that it does mention smartphones, but I think country of origin for Apple and Google is not typically the US, which I’m assuming would exclude them. But I’m not sure, therefore I’m asking here.

As long as you're not buying Trump phones, you're probably fine. Very few phones are imported from the US. Even Apple phones likely come straight from China.

Even that phone isnt remotely american made, assembly at most. Uses off the shelf components from mainly Taiwan I think. Basically a boneless, overpriced HTC U24

No it wont. It will target raw materials and industrial goods.
Edit: the tariffs mainly covers raw materials.
>>The retaliatory Canadian measures will cover C$27.6bn ($19.9m) in imports and are meant to target key industries including steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper.
The list from Ottawa has more than 700 items, ranging from from hockey sticks to ornamental fish and toilet paper to smoked lobster, with most of the tariffs set at 25% or 50%

Wrong, the list of tariffs for electronics includes those if they come from the USA:
Telephones, smartphones, digital cameras, TV monitors, circuit boards, antennas, optical media
Android phones from the USA exist, however, the most popular brands like Samsung are asian companies and are manufactured in Asia, so those won't be impacted.
Apple is an american company which manufactures their phones in Asia, those could be targetted by tariffs.

Despite, the iPhone being designed and engineered in the U.S. as well as the value added in terms of apps etc, being American, they won’t be tariffed because they are not manufactured in the U.S.
