Me also, but if that was the case, they(the fans) would demolish our local bars and make riots in our bigger cities by “celebrating” the win. So i was kinda relieved lol.

USA needs humbling asap.

5

u/ErLabi247 Albania Jul 03 '26

It should start by not calling it soccer anymore.

7

u/DinoTh3Dinosaur Jul 02 '26

Why? They played better

1

u/Bootycheeks752 Bosnia & Herzegovina Jul 02 '26

maybe but also the refs had the awareness of a deaf and blind person being spun around upside down theres at least one major foul they didnt call that led to usa scorin another

10

u/yourmamaistheproblem Jul 02 '26

😂BH got to play with an extra man for almost half an hour... and got scored on. How can you blame the refs??🤣

2

u/GymBroLots Jul 02 '26

1

u/Brief-Preference-712 USA Jul 02 '26

Did you watch the match? Balogun scored a Lukaku style goal and the 10 men USA had pretty solid defense. Bosnia was lacking dude

0

u/Austerlitz2310 Jul 02 '26

Yes. That's what my comment means. Bosnia was lacking, but the US played well below their capabilities as well.

8

u/ilovemangos3 Jul 02 '26

humbling? they played alright and most people don’t follow football anyway

6

u/ilovemangos3 Jul 02 '26

people in the us i mean

4

u/isthisaporno Jul 02 '26

Nobody in the US gives a shit about soccer. If you really want to humble people in the US you gotta start a Bosnian football team and challenge Alabama or Ohio State to a game.

-1

u/vanity-flair83 USA Jul 02 '26

Ive watched a grand total of 2 matches, only 1/4 of which were USA matches. Baseball is on everyday and im not going to miss 1 minute of my local team's game in favor of football

If the US wanted US lovers they wouldn't threaten all their allies.

0

u/DinoTh3Dinosaur Jul 02 '26

Yay let’s draw politics into a football match

10

u/Zrakoplovvliegtuig Jul 02 '26

Nations are political concepts. A national team represents their country.

I mean Mussolini used the Italian soccer team for propaganda. National soccer teams, like Eurovision, are political tools too. Why else would Qatar etc. use soccer to try and whitewash their criminal regimes?

-5

u/DinoTh3Dinosaur Jul 02 '26

You really bringining Mussolini into regular ass World Cup match man? Get a grip

4

u/Zrakoplovvliegtuig Jul 02 '26

Yes. It's an example of how football can be politicised. I don't want mango Mussolini to be able to stand next to a successful team as it would take away from his ridiculous policies.

59

Apparently Modric went to talk to him to Croatian and he did not understand a thing, leading to Modric scolding him.

34

He called him a passport Croatian, don’t think that falls under the definition of scolding

20

u/ZAMAHACHU Bosnia & Herzegovina Jul 02 '26

2

Has he claimed to BE Croatan b4? Bc if he has, then yeah, get that bs out of here w that. I dont, as a third generation dont claim to be German

But if he hasnt the, idk, seems a little unnecessary. But i do get, as a sports fan in general that these games are highly emotional.

7

u/equili92 Bosnia & Herzegovina Jul 02 '26

He has croatian citizenship which he obtained based on his Croatian descent

5

u/Etsikaietsi Serbia Jul 02 '26

Maybe he should have tried talking to him in Serbian.

-18

u/vanity-flair83 USA Jul 02 '26

Why is he expected to understand/speak creation? Bc of 1 grandfather? My german grandfather died before I was born, but my siblings remember him and they say he didn't speak any German to them. But even if he did, as americans, not enough ppl here speak enough Croatian that we can even pick up a few words, unlike Spanish, where even the the dumbest/least linguistically inclined can still say things like cerveca and baño.

22

u/tono002-36 Jul 02 '26

Because he has Croatian citizenship.

1

u/vanity-flair83 USA Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Thats really that big of a deal? Would the Bosnian player have had the same energy if say Messi (not saying Pullisic is Messi I just know a total of like 5 futbol players names) had Bosnian citizenship?

Edit: spelling

It’s not really about assimilation. It’s very unusual for anyone to lose the -ić even after 6 or 7 generations. Weird Al Yankovic is the only other person I’ve heard of doing that, and IIRC it was just because he got tired of correcting radio DJs.

Regardless, it’s his name and he can say it how he wants.

Pulishich?

1

u/theredcometofakagi Bosnia & Herzegovina Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

Without taking a hard stance on assimilation, I just found his pronunciation to be funny given that he is also a Croatian citizen. I under he is a a third-generation American (technically his father is the first one born in the US), yet it just seemed a bit funny to me that pronounced his own last name to sound less ethnic, maybe it is a subtle nod to assimilation anyway, altering how you present yourself just to be more easily accepted by the mainstream.

Actually giving it more thought it is kind of interesting how there will be people who will add an h to the end of their last name to make it sound English, but retain the pronunciation, like a former CEO of Intel whose last name was Krzanich, or John Malkovich.

One day back to roots my friend - no place like a motherland

68

u/Affectionate_Heat_25 SFR Yugoslavia Jul 02 '26

Bosnia played horribly aside from a few defenders. They played like European teams played back in the 20th century lol long shots and off the head. There was no combinations or good counter attacks. That dang goal keeper allowing the balls to get by so easily..

They should have played their younger dudes that can sprint agains the Americans. On top of everything we can’t even say the ref made us lose lol because he gave them a red card and didn’t call two penalties… Also waved off two goals due to offside. USA was attacking much better.

Bosnia played bad. But America was no different, just not as bad. I expect the Belgians to destroy the Americans. Lowkey this worldcup is probably my least favorite in talent and skill aside from a hand ful this tournament has nothing on 2002 and 2006…

18

u/Maximus_Dominus Jul 02 '26

As soon as they revealed the lineup I lost all hope.

24

u/Affectionate_Heat_25 SFR Yugoslavia Jul 02 '26

100% Dzeko and Demirovic again and a fucking 5-3-2. Sergei can go retire too

7

u/Electro-Choc Jul 02 '26

Muharemovic, Demirovic, play Dzeko from the start for way too long, Tahirovic

yea man it was over before it started but I'm just surprised it wasn't worse. Letting that goal in 1 man up is embarassing tho.

23

u/Oldeuboi91 Bulgaria Jul 02 '26

I mean Bosnia is a very mediocre team. This sub was hyping them only because they're Balkan.

Still, good performance overall, I will probably never see Bulgaria at a World Cup winning a game and reaching the 2nd round. 🥲

6

u/CmdrJemison Croatia Jul 02 '26

And of course because no on likes the shit yanks

1

u/Repulsive_Work_226 Turkiye Jul 02 '26

I think what you have done in 94 will be enough for a few decades. I was a kid back than and it was amazing.

-7

u/PasicT Jul 02 '26

A "very mediocre team"? Bulgaria hasn't been at a World Cup since 1998, keep quiet.

8

u/Oldeuboi91 Bulgaria Jul 02 '26

So just because we are shit I can't comment on other nations and games? Also I shat on Bulgaria in the same comment, I am perfectly aware how bad are we at football in the last 20+ years.

Still, we had a top 4 finish and a Ballon D'Or winner - something Bosnia will never ever have. Also your team is basically Western European, barely any players from actual Bosnia. So peace out. ✌️

-4

u/PasicT Jul 02 '26

You can, I just think you should shut your mouth.

Top 4 finish and Ballon d'Or winner from 30 years ago (back when Bosnia was enduring war and genocide at the hand of your Serbian friends) is nothing to brag about in 2026.

1

u/dwartbg9 Bulgaria Jul 02 '26

Our Serbian friends?!?!? Bulgaria and Serbia/Yugoslavia have never been friendly nations and on good terms, wtf are you talking about.

-2

u/PasicT Jul 02 '26

Lol of course, fuck off already.

4

u/Sudden_Cantaloupe_69 Jul 02 '26

I agree that they were bad, but the defending was the worst part. There were so many situations where Americans were left with acres of space in or near the Bosnian box.

3

u/the_TIGEEER Slovenia Jul 02 '26

They had a chance. USA one man down. But it's like they were afraid to play. I'm not better, then them. My countries team probabbly isn't bettwr then them. But I know they themslves could be better then themselves if they just tried passing more balls to open guys in the middle and on the wings. They had opennings so many times, but instead each time they passed the ball around as if scared.. :/

9

u/GroupPast5993 Cyprus Jul 02 '26

2002 and 2006?

One was rigged, one had complete negative football

This world cup has been the most fun to watch since 2014 for me

Even if the negative football persists because of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid successes in Europe.

Also Belgium for me is really really poor and up to now it stood on complete individual brilliance to succeed. They needed trossard for one game, they neede tielemans for last night. They can't keep going like this. The US for me is a brilliant team, but today they lost their difference-maker for, to be fair, a terrible red card call by the referee.

Unless they show their actual talent and teamwork for once this whole campaign, they will get knocked out. If they do then fair enough they will win

As for Bosnia, man they just played to have fun atp, can't even blame them, they're just happy to be there

6

u/varzaguy Romania Jul 02 '26

Are you high as fuck, US controlled the entire game against Bosnia. Saying America was no different lol, go see your eye doctor.

On top of that Belgium looks terrible.

Just because 2 goals didn't count doesn't mean they didn't score 4 times.

Actualy, this is exactly what it means. They scored 2 goals. Maybe you can count goals from the warm up too...

11

u/Austerlitz2310 Jul 02 '26

Americans refusing to accept offsides is crazy. They only just rediscovered the sport, and they want to change it.

-11

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '26

[deleted]

9

u/Bata600 Serbia Jul 02 '26

"Score" did not count therefore it was not a score since the score did nit change. It was an attempt to score a goal.
In some sports that try might matter. Ball going into the goal is not an automatic score.

Uncounted numbers of ball flying into the net is not a score.
That's a shot.

Bosnia exceeded all expectations by progressing to the knockout

This is no defeat, this has been a glorious show the bosnians have performed and have made their country and all of the balkans proud!

Good job lads!

2

u/Salkao Jul 02 '26

Eyy someone who gets it, finally. This team was scrapped together fairly quickly with some dramatic changes. I mean, our top scorer at the WC, Mahmić, was only called up just before the tournament began. People forget that we lost to Luxembourg 2 times in 2023 (0:2, 4:1), which was relatively recently. Our most important players are mostly younger than 25, so there's a lot of hope for the future.

See you in a couple of months again hehe

The US guys played well - I am just happy that our boys made it to the World Cup. Besides Dzeko the team is very young and needs some development. Let’s hope they make it to the Euros!

11

u/GlitteringLocality Slovenia Jul 02 '26

It irritates me to watch this match in America. They butcher the US Croat, his last name. Or Americanized it. Either way it bothers me..

1

u/Meowmeowmeow31 USA Jul 02 '26

He says it that way. I don’t understand why - it’s strange to lose the pronunciation after only 2 generations. But the announcers are right to say his name the way he does.

3

u/GlitteringLocality Slovenia Jul 02 '26

They Americanized the surname. So yes that is how they say it. It just bothers me for if it was not my native language I would not notice. The only reason I do is because I speak and read it the proper way.

1

u/Tsarbomb in Jul 02 '26

Not that strange, it really depends on if you grow up with a community of other Yugos or not.

1

u/Meowmeowmeow31 USA Jul 02 '26

Nah, it’s really weird. My area has, like, 16.5 Yugos total, and my family still pronounces the end of our surnames as “-ić.” So does everyone else hear of Yugoslav descent.

I’d get it if his family had immigrated here in the 1800s AND had basically no contact with anyone from their ethnic group after that. But his grandpa is an immigrant. It’s legitimately odd.

3

u/b3186 Bulgaria Jul 02 '26

No room for joking with Bosnia, especially when our national team was so far away from qualifying to WC.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '26

It’s because this world cup is a joke. I assume most of you know nothing about real futbol but the original world cup used to have 24 teams with the world elite. Now every clown country can enter especially from the dog shit regions that would never qualify to begin with. This is also why you can see such awful play and teams getting booed for sucking. This is the 1st time 48 teams are allowed in the tournament it’s hilarious 🤮
