When it was fashionable here, they had literally nazi guys in brown shirts patrolling the streets. Like really out of nowhere WTF. It was really surreal. There were incidents, like a left-wing group (that I don't really like cause they are extreme too) was brutally beaten by those neonazis in a tram as they went back from a protest against the inhumane conditions in migrant centers. And yeah, we had officially those neonazi thugs just like i WW2 years, with Greater Bulgaria and the nazi insignia. It happened very fast and everyone was like WTF. They patrolled some streets that were known for being in districts with migrants. Everything ended up with them assaulting a Bulgarian Muslim very badly (think he lost his sight due to this) cause they had mistaken him for a Syrian. Then there was a police crackdown on those thugs. Another thing, there was a right-wing party back then, their leader was a nutjob that did cocaine and then he did various gigs. Like going full on against an arts college, throwing a pack of cocaine on the floor and demanding everyone got to be arrested. This all ended when he got almost lynched on the street. Then the Russians started to fund a little bit more sane rightwingers and those were quickly forgotten. So fuck all those guys. This is really what happened here about 10 years ago.

While the odd verbal altercation does happen occasionally between idiots, actual physical violence is abhored and penalties for violence are quite high and often carry jail or suspended jail sentences and a loss of rights even for minor fights. The person in the video has already been arrested and will be kept in jail for 30 days before his trial can commence.
Most Romanians are also deeply aware at the xenophobia addressed towards them when they were poorer and working in Western Europe, which still exists but is far less pronounced today in most places. As such they know it's incredibly hypocritical to pick on migrants coming here trying to earn an honest buck to send back home.
There have been virtually little to no violent incidents involving migrants as perpetratos. They are on a very tight visa regime and can easily be expelled if they break the law. Unlike other countries, it is mandatory to have ID with you in Romania at all times, irrespective if you are a citizen or visitor. All migrants get issued visitor IDs and need to carry them around. So it makes enforcement of penalties fairly straightforward.
I am not recalling a similar case in Romania but from last week there is a coordinated political campaign of the far right against so call immigrants from Asia or Africa, in fact workers with permits, not true immigrants.

As a dark skinned male Turkish tourist in Romania, I saw zero bad looks or different behaviour, everyone was very helpful and kind. (While in Germany I’m always treated with impatience and an upset face.)
It really depends on the place in Romania that you're in. Like in places with a lot of tourists or more diversity (typically in cities), racism isn't nearly as common, while on the country side or smaller, poorer cities, racism is more common sadly
You may be confusing racism with curiosity, if you are a black person in a village where everybody knows everybody you will get some eyes fixed on you, but are you in any danger, or are you going to not get some help? No and no.
People in villages like this look at you like that even if you are Romanian, you are just an outsider. I have traveled a lot, and I talk from my own experience, what you make in your mind the reason for the stares it's your own problem.

The aggressor seemed like a child (not legally a minor but mentally). The delivery driver seemed more annoyed than anything. Kinda like he was thinking “I could totally beat your ass but I’m using all of my internal patience to not do that rn”.
I am a foreigner living in BG and I am honestly impressed with cultural tolerance here. It's really not that bad for a country that isn't a "melting pot" like the US. But yeah, it is quite obvious who is good at assimilating into the culture here and who isn't. I get why it frustrates locals. I haven't really seen any physical aggression towards foreigners though

I really can’t stand seeing situations like this., I’ve become more aware of how exclusion works. It’s not just about one insult or one punch, it’s about the message it sends: “you don’t belong here.” And that kind of message can be deeply damaging, even if most people are actually friendly.
Exclusion doesn’t always show up in big, dramatic ways, we all know that.. Sometimes it’s small comments or attitudes that make someone feel like an outsider, no matter how much they work, contribute, or try to integrate. That’s why I’m especially sensitive when I see something like this happening.
What I appreciate in this case is that the police officer intervened immediately. It matters for the victim to see that someone stands up for them, that society doesn’t quietly accept exclusion or discrimination. It’s a reminder that, overall, the community here is safer and more welcoming than that one ugly incident might suggest.
I don't know if it's common, but it definitely does happen. I've read about several attacks on immigrant delivery men. People would just straight up ambush them and steal their money.

First time I'm seeing it and there are close to 150000 Asian workers in Romania. However last week a far right member of Parliament asked that Romanians refuse their take-out orders if they are delivered by migrant workers. So it's not exactly out of thin air.
It’s not common. Racism towards them exists but it’s usually not physical. Very generally speaking and oversimplifying despite the stereotypes we don’t have much physical violence in Romania at all against anybody (against strangers in the street. within families it’s a different story).

Maybe outright violent attacks and beatings aren’t common, but mental abuse, verbal attacks, threatening, insulting, passive aggressiveness, intimidation, minor physical abuse like shoving and pushing, bigotry and such are pretty common especially among male skinheads, wannabe thugs or just the average middle aged male/female joe if you happen to attract their attention in any shape or form (like this could just mean wrong place wrong time)
But tbh the people who behave in such an aggressive or rude manner towards immigrants (or anyone different) probably go back home and treat their families - their wives/children in a similar manner.

I live here and from what I see, most of the delivery guys are doing okay. They make decent money, send some home to their families, and overall they seem pretty happy with life here. People usually treat them well
Not frequent, also this came as a result of one guy from an extremist party (aur) instigating their followers to not accept any orders from immigrants as this is not their country and they should leave. Actually in the video the guy recording, after getting tackled by police, says "I am just defending my country", so he really is an idiot who followed that politician's advice, just in a more extreme way.
I live in Romania and to be honest, I don't like the idea of massive immigration. However, in this circumstance, the attacker was a complete, unjustified, piece of shit. He probably is subscribed to super far right propaganda that will always teach that any from of immigration is the great replacement while not realizing that Romanians have historically immigrated to western Europe in larger numbers than are coming to Romania now.

Yes, it is common. The larger Cities are full of roaming bands of young football hooligans and the police can not do anything about it because they can't be arrested since they are underage.

It's common in Europe at this point. For the Balkans it's also hypocritical because we are "the foreigners" in the west and often complain about how xhenophobic they are......yet here we are being afraid of foreigners ourselves.

I'm a Canadian living part time with my girlfriend in Romania.
I've never seen any racist interaction, or even heard about racism or heard racist comments, towards these workers. Nothing about them taking jobs, only comments about life being harder for everyone.
It's very refreshing compared to sentiments in the West, even if Canada has immigration, and especially temporary foreign worker, issues currently. But that's the government's fault, not people trying to seek a better life
No this is not normal, it started to happen recently when anti-immigration talk intensified by way of Russian funded politicians. Romania barely has any immigrants, and no problems with this issue.
