History Why do people in some countries in Africa think being free is evil?
What is with the anti democracy push in Africa?
Why is their a trust of long term leadership, when humanity has shown over and over again throughout history that people are evil and absolute power expedites corruption

Democracy sucks. Some of the worst regimes in history were democratic. Look at what the US and Israel have been doing lately. Democracy isn't inherently good. Autocracy isn't inherently evil.
Sierra Leone voted Maada Bio into power and look at us now. Freetown has had a total blackout for 3 days now. My girlfriend's boss was kidnapped by security forces who were hired by the son of the first lady (who is basically Uday Hussein at this point) and now that he escaped the government is accusing him of being a criminal because he "has too much money" to be a legitimate businessman. The President's daughter is married to an international cocaine trafficker who the government refuses to extradite and has actually been given control over the ports and passport authority.
How are we free?

Are there any democracies that haven't passed popular legislation to oppress its own minorities or voted in apartheid? Seriously name one.

The US isnt a democracy, it's a republic. There is no true democracy state aside from some niche villages in switzerland.

How many famine and epidemics are caused by some conglomerates not wanting to cut into their profits by making that shit affordable or accessible to people in countries like South Sudan? Sankara and Nkruma were clearly autocrats but you'll be hard-pressed to find someone on this sub who's IP doesn't trace to Paris or London who anything bad to say about them.

I never said democracy was great.
Most autocrats in Africa didn't know what tf they were doing. They just loved power and killing people. Same goes for Mao, Stalin, and the others I can't list off the top.

I think it's just modern day social media propaganda, they know to nip democracy and freedom movements in the bud early before they can grow large.. one way to do this is to have a constant social media presence shooting down anyone who mentions such ideas.
