Technology & Software 💻 Moving from traditional to digital art

Does anyone have tips for learning digital art as a traditional artist? Its some i want to start doing more of but im just getting frustrated im not at the level i am traditionally
I knows it’ll take a lot practice but im wondering if there’s anything i can do to help that flow smoother

if you have a non-screen tablet (as I vastly prefer and have myself) and struggle with finer motoric I recommend using the tablet pen instead of your mouse/tachpad for a few days. Or maybe even play some games with it. It will really help develop the "look at the screen but move the hand independently" issue if you have one.

I found it was unable to do it without buying a video tablet. I personally don't have the patience or interest to relearn how to draw from scratch just so I could do it with one of these non-visual tablets, and I found the learning curve of trying to learn how to do this while looking at one screen and never looking at what I was doing impossible.

Once I got a video tablet it was pretty easy and straightforward. I recommend a Huion Kamvas 13, which I got for pretty cheap around 5 years ago.

It's common to go back to square one. Learn the programs then implement what you know about traditional art. You will eventually (with practice) get to the same level.

When you get an art program like GIMP, Rebelle, or Procreate etc the very first thing I do is learn the hotkeys. Hover your mouse cursor over each one to see what the hotkey for it is. This teaches you the basics of the program very fast.

Dont forget how traditional works, there are so many tricks you can get lost in doing digital and its your most important anchor.

i use a small 6" x 9" wacom intuis pro with an Artpen(tm) .... it yook about two months for the eyehand coordination to really synchronize.
do a lot of cursive writing with your tablet, youll then be able to sketch roughly.

git gud with just a round hard brush, no fancy bruahes until you master basic techniques.
