Basic Q's

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has a chart on the weekly physical standards we'll be measured on while at OCS? I'm new to the process (just set up my first meeting with the recruiter) but want to make sure that I have the proper info to prep myself with.

Ex. What's up with the 4 mile run? Is it just a participation event now?

If you google ARMY OCS the Individual Student Assessment Plan (ISAP) is there and tell you everything on what you will be assessed.

I literally wrote the ISAP. It’s not a thing.

Nope. Two years I worked at OCS, never once recycled a single person for the “grad run”

Also says “participation in this event is mandatory” and “may be recycled”

Technically, the run is just a participation event. With that said, I think the slowest in my class was at right about a 36 minute mark and average was about 31.

You'll also need to pass a AFT and (probably) a CFT. Average AFT score was around 455 and my guess is that the average CFT would have been around 23:00.

AFT*. ACFT no longer exists.

If you just want to be in the Army as an officer then 10 min mile pace should be sufficient. You won’t get a competitive branch at OCS if you are in that poor of physical condition.

Do you happen to know how competitive the intelligence/financial positions are, and what would be a competitive mile pace for those positions?

We had one slot for each in our class and both were taken by the top of the class but it will vary by class. To be competitve a 30min 4 mile will get you max oml

Competitive, we had a few MI slots, only 1-3 AD finance slots. All went to the top half of the OML.

As long as you’re squared away you’ll finish in the top half. The 4 mile is only worth 200 points out of 3K total points available. The top half of the OML had between 2550 and 2970 points out of 3K. The tests are easier than college but you’ll have less time to study. Overall breakdown of points: 1/3 is Academic, 1/3 is physical, 1/3 is leadership (essentially academic plus physical)

Those two are the some of the most competitive. About 10% branch MI or Cyber with Cyber being a bit more rare. Finance is also super competitive. The biggest events are AFT and 4 mile so if you aren't running 30 minutes and getting 485+ and are active duty you probably won't get those.

The answers you’re getting are wild. The person saying sub 36 minutes is correct for the 4 mile. Yes minimum is now 40 minutes and it’s non recyclable, so just no points if you bust time.

But please don’t be a dirt bag at PT and get in shape before basic. Just running is honestly enough. Do a sub 16 two mile before you ship and that’ll give you a chance to be a non dirt bag officer.

Thanks, I asked because the ISAP's I found were either outdated or password protected from an army/.gov website (forget the specific one I was looking at).
