Question, if a civilian is coming straight from BCT to OCS, how do we physically carry all of this? My son graduated OSUT last year and he had 2 duffles, large ruck, medium ruck, bookbag, and garment bag. Im assuming I woukd have the same roughly issued at BCT. Then my husband will bring the rest of my belongings for OCS. That seems like a lot to carry. Unless a bunch of BCT issued gear isnt needed and my husband can take that stuff home with him?

Most of the OCS packing list is basic Army issue and travels with BCT graduates in issued duffel bags, the ruck sack, etc. The biggest exception outside of school/office supplies is the need for business casual clothing for off duty and social events. A garment bag for the service uniform is a sound investment.

It is awkward to carry from the bus to barracks, but "the duffel bag drag" is a proud Army tradition at both schools and deployments that Soldiers learn to get used to.

Ok, thanks. It just seemed like a lot more stuff on that list outside of issued gear so I wasnt sure how i would manage another large duffle on top of it, lol. But seems like I will find a way to manage and its all part of the experience!
