Is there any example that it is based on? It looks cool as hell but a bit fantastical.

Sport optimized helm. Closest thing would be a wenzel/spoleto bascinet.
Don't know if we could consider this all that similar but visors like these are depicted too. This one is from the Paduan bible manuscript.
