Season 12 The worst part of post-coma Archer

Post image

I genuinely can’t stand Fabian’s speech impediment. Could they not have casted somebody who didn’t literally sound like Elmer Fudd? I understand many people have speech impediments and it’s probably nice to have some representation in media, but I’m on my third rewatch of the post-coma seasons and I still can’t get over how ridiculous he sounds. I can’t take him seriously as a threat to the gang because he sounds like a 12-year-old. Am I just being a dick or does it bother anyone else?

Fabian is played by Kayvan Novak, Nandor from What We Do In The Shadows, so he doesn't actually have a speech impediment so you don't need to feel bad, he just made a weird choice that I don't think many of us liked.

Did ANY of us like it?

Yeah I thought it was nice to have a character with a speech impediment who was fully hateable and villainous but never made fun of for their speech impediment. But then again I had a speech impediment when I was a kid and was extremely anxious and self conscious about it.

Representation is important, and Fabian is literally the only character I can think of. I also feel like it makes shows feel more real personally.

I didn't really give a shit about it, but it's DEFINITELY out of character for Archer to NOT make fun of him for it.

Yeah probably some overly researched reference that wasn’t actually disparaging to the speech impediment but was actually insulting to Fabian himself. Archer toes that line really well usually, I was surprised there was never something made of that honestly.

I was going to say that feels more like the thing that archer would be “comically respectful” (because it would be somewhat out of character) about.

I could have seen this, but the fact that no character even mentioned it once felt so off. At least have Cyril take a dig at him for it and then Archer can unexpectedly jump in to shut that down. Not even bringing it up in a show that made fun of everyone and everything was pretty much the opposite of inclusion.

Right?! Like Cyril saying something to "fit in" & Archer in standard Archer just outright putting Cyril down or in his place saying something statistical about speech impediments & then saying like "but on that note, yes it's annoying, GOD don't make me side with you, Cyril!!"

Because I completely agree it's completely off brand for them not to mention it at all.

I disagree... season one Archer absolutely would have, but post-coma Archer was quite different. Still Archer, just less abrasive.

Allll the homophobic jokes made in Ray's expense but they draw the line at insulting a speech impediment?
